I had a 2017 Texas built 3rd gen and two different 5th gen 4Runners made in Japan so approaching from that point of comparison.

Some things on the 4th gen feel cheap and others feel more premium.

    Acknowledgements:
-Toyota paint has always been crap so the 4th gen will likely at worst be just as bad as my other Toyota trucks in this regard. We'll see how it holds up as a black vehicle but I am over my OCD paint phase and I recognize now you will never have a perfect looking truck. If you think you do you either haven't looked hard enough or you just need to give it a bit of time in a few parking lots. My focus now is to have a truck that looks ~90% clean and clear and with each year as it ages my expectations decrease.
-My 5th gen 4Runner dented like butter from a single hail event (during the summer).

    What feels cheap?
-My driver's seat has a bad backrest creak that I noticed on delivery day and that I am talking to my dealership about.
-The strange door storage baskets feel very fragile and liable to break or wrap if handled in the wrong way or pulled on aggressively.
-The glovebox is floppy but we all knew this since the very first journalist videos came out a year ago. It doesn't flop around while driving and is as-designed in that all of them have it so it isn't a QC issue but a design issue.

That is about it right now.

    What feels premium?
-The door handles and the overall weight of the door feel a bit more premium and heavy than my Japan built 4Runners and waaaay more heavy and premium than my 3rd gen. Very solid feeling.
-The truck, despite being a manual, is less noise-y and clunky than my auto 3rd gen. It's still early but 3rd gen Tacomas from a cabin perspective were almost identical to 2nd gens that come out in 2005. It was fine but noticeably cheap feeling.
-Grab handles on the doors and the one in center console feel robust and able to handle reasonable human weight.
-Feels bigger, looks bigger, looks taller and feels taller. Just feels so much more heavy and planted than my 4Runner and my 3rd gen DCLB despite being a DCSB.
-It's hard to describe but my 3rd gen Tacoma always felt like a pedestrian mid-2000s midsize truck. A tradesman vehicle with a hoodscoop. Inoffensive and mild mannered. My 5th ORP 4Runner felt better, like a 1990s old school body on frame vehicle that was still grounded as a family oriented, sensible vehicle. 4th gen in comparison looks, handles and feels like a 1980s or 1990s custom 4x4 spec'd with modern amenities. It's torquey, it's tall, it's brawny and it's more badass (both the manual and the auto which I also tried out).

So far it's too early to really tell but my current truck is by far the most fun Toyota truck I have had and I think it would be the case with the 8 speed auto also but especially with the manual. The turbo whine combined with the torquey old school feel of the truck which was sorely missing in the 3rd gen is exactly what you want and feels even brawnier than my 5th gen 4Runner which is a legendary vehicle at this point. It's kind of like a mix of a 1980s Toyota pickup with a 1990s full size truck back when fullsize was a lot smaller.

Like I said, If you would have kept it (old truck) until it quit.
You wouldn't be in this situation.

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.

Yeh but maybe the cycle is just cheaper and cheaper shit on every new iteration/ (cutting corners), so of course the previous is remembered fondly. And of course yes, the re"member berries" are usually strong and cloud the vision.

    My recommendation.

Once the bitching starts, the person will never be happy.

When the vehicle is replaced by another marquee, some other forum will have the joy of their presence.

The fan should get fixed by a dealer. Just take it in. Others have posted that it's just a blade that is bent or something.

Can you post some picks of the paint issues. Waiting on a bronze oxide and want to see how bad it is.

    It’s Sunday not Friday…

But seriously, I’m happy with my Third Gen, but the Fourth Gen looks fine. There’s no way it’s a terrible truck like some people here make it out to be.

Even Stevie Wonder could see the 4th gen has horrible value for the price.

    Sane rational advise.

Yes, it's just that simple. The hyperbole around these trucks, fueled by social media is insane.

This just might stick. "expected Lexus quality instead u got ford quality with a Lexus price"

    The New FORD Gen.

I kid....... however every gen has it's issues. It's a Toyota. I'm sure it will be awesome. If not, sales will slump and Toyota will have no choice but to make adjustments.
