It’s slow but it’s not the driver’s door. How often are you opening and closing the tailgate that this is a deal breaker? I’ve had garage door openers that have lasted 15+ years, this isn’t new technology.

A vertical and horizontal opening tailgate (like on a Ridgeline, but station wagons in the 70's had that too so I don't think there'd be a patent issue) would have provided more utility.

Geez I wish I could find one! My parents actually had three - the '82 that came to me, which was my mom's base beige on beige. My dad had a dark blue '84 which was a nicer model, dark blue with a red pinstripe and a vinyl landau roof. That one was totaled in a crash not long after he got it. He replaced it with another '84, which I think was more of a sporty model, gold on gold, with bucket seats and a console shifter. But all were the base V6 (I think it was a V6) engine. Nothing like the sweet Grand National parked center stage in the showroom that I deeply lusted after!

My dad brought home a silver ‘69 Buick Wildcat with a 430 cu incher and oxblood interior. I was 8. I’m enjoying the cruise and dad says. “Steve, look at this” I don’t know what he’s talking about so he points in front of him to a white needle pointing at a number 100. The rest as they say is history!

I haven't seen anything, but it seems doable since you can disable it from the drivers seat. No reason to not disconnect the wires at the connector (probably one of the looms under the tailgate near the spare tire? I honestly haven't looked at the wiring diagram.) and test to see what happens.
