LMAO…This site is loaded with off roaders. Just look at the myriad build threads. Off road worthiness was one of the main considerations for me second only to reliability.

I love my 2021 trd. It is fast enough, looks good, very comfortable to my 6'1" frame, hauls enough, tows barely enough, my radio works fine and the phone does too. The screen is big enough to see the radio station or caller. The truck needs to stand pretty high to go off road(notice the TRD OR part...), should be very reliable, holds its value extremely well, and it was reasonably priced compared to many trucks(and resale). I get 18 to 19 in town, and at 73mph, I get 23.1 on the flats. It does what I wanted it for, as I defined my requirements before purchasing. I have had 4 other Toyota trucks, all slow, stiff ride and too small until the 3rd gen. I have used many Fords and Chevy's(no Ram...), all get worse mileage, but haul alot more and tow alot more. They are less reliable and cost more.

Toyota listens to customers, and some say they want a masculine grill to make the truck look tough, that hurts the aerodynamics. I would rather my truck look like Ivan Stewart's with a lower hood and higher fender. Some customers don't need to go that fast and feel their current truck is good enough as an all around driver. They are balancing costs and customer desires to meet as many as possible and still maintain their reliability and cost competitive price. It is good to give them feedback, but no vehicle meets all the needs and desires...

Yeah Japanese are all about function. Really looking forward to the functional improvements Bosozoku brings to the 4th Gen Tacoma.

Are those exhaust pipes? Are they meant to emulate straws or cigarettes or something? I have lots of questions.

I think those are snorkels, one for each cylinder. And that awesome storage on the back for maxtrax/spare/jack. Oh and who needs trail cams when your spotters have those color-matched sliders to stand on. Totally Overland-ready. Ground clearance seems a bit lacking until you realize it's bagged and ARB'd.

Honestly, the current Hilux looks like the Ranger, Colorado and Canyon. I'm glad the Tacoma still looks a bit old school compared to those new medium sized trucks that all look the same. Leaning forward with their asses in the air.

The new hilux is the worst looking pickup Toyota has ever made. The thing is hideous. Looks like a Pontiac Aztec

Thank god somebody else said it. I was beginning to think I was the only one. Everybody on this site is always like “Hilux this” and “Hilux that” but it looks like it was dreamed up by a guy who lost his sense of taste in an industrial accident. Fugly as a rhino’s ass. I think it looks like a Ridgeline.

The Hilux is invincible or so says it's tailgate. Ugly as can be but I'd drive one.

I've had a 2006, 2011, and 2016 before I got my 2021. Overall this 2021 is my favorite both visually and with the options provided. That being said, the 2011 for some reason keeps a special place in my heart.

The current Hilux is apparently invincible because "Top Gear" couldn't kill an Hilux from 4 generations ago.

If Toyota offered this along side the Tacoma, the Tacoma would still be the best seller. I see no advantage to this IFS mini truck with high bedsides and bad styling. It’s basically the same truck but with a super ugly body added.

Yes……it’s got a diesel yadda yadda…..,but hell……why did they have to make it look like ass to have a diesel???

The front is stupid. The worst front fascia ever for durability off road. You’d be better off in a Subaru. Toyota’s designers were so deeply stupid when they designed the new Hilux, that the front fascia dips down in front of the tires, rather than raising up like it does on a Tacoma or 4Runner for off road clearance. You probably have to cut the front bumper off just to get the damn thing home from the dealer.

Late to the party, but third gens are absolutely not like a T100. I daily a T100 and have driven a third gen several times and it's so much worse. T100s are just more truck packed into a first gen tacoma form factor. And still have better specs than a third gen.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
if you look at the front fascia lines, it appears they just unbolt and pop out like the tacos does

Why do you have to unbolt your facia to go off-road? The Tacoma does well enough in stock format.

The single dumbest styling feature ever added to an off-road truck. One rock in the way, and you gotta replace the whole front end. Probably $10,000 in damage from tapping a log. Hilux is stupid.

    44D2CD56-DEDB-4B6F-984A-67DE9BC4C86C.jpg

thank god they didn’t let the Hilux design team near these tacos. Note the outside bottom edge of the fascia is level with the top of the wheel, not the center of the axle, like on the Hilux.

Care to elaborate on exactly how the 3rd gen is worse and the T100 has better specs? Because other than payload which the T100 absolutely clobbers the 3rd gen at, I don't seem to see much that the T100 has on a 3rd gen. Not HP, not Torque, not towing.

Not trying to pick a fight, genuinely curious what I am missing.
