Michelin LTX for highways. I like my Cooper ATW’s for highway & light off road.

Also check your tire pressure. Maybe carry 150 pounds in the bed when the roads get sketchy.

What was the outdoor temperature this morning specifically? I would start by deciding what areas you will be driving in, and what categories of tire interest you:

Highway/road - strictly road performance, suited for high speed driving in dry, above freezing conditions only.

All season - a highway/road tire that is more balanced to handle all weather conditions. Some all seasons are fantastic, some are crap. None will handle well off road.

All Terrain - an all season that sacrifices a small amount of road performance to handle unpaved terrain. Some all terrains are also designed for mild to moderate snow.

Mud Terrain - designed for off road performance. Noisy and heavy on the highway, as a generalization.

Winter tire- purpose designed for snow and ice. They usually wear out quickly if they're used on dry pavement or warmer weather.

Based on your rough descriptions you're probably either an All-Season or an All-Terrain. Choose which category suits you best, then look at a website (like discount tire) to see which tires fit your vehicle. From there, look up tires that interest you on multiple websites, and read the reviews.

I have the Michelins on my other truck, and with some weight in the bed, it's excellent.

Assuming 4WD, when you're in 4WD and wheels are cranked for a turn, but the truck is still moving straight because the front tires have lost traction, give it a little gas to help the front wheels regain traction and pull you around. This works on a FWD vehicle, too.

Welcome to Tacoma World, the inmate run the asylum around here!

If you are in an area where the temperature regularly drops into freezing temperatures, I would highly recommend a set of winter rated tires, something studless. I run Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV snows on my truck, but you can't go wrong with Bridgestone or Michelin snows either.

Lots of people also swear by M&S here as well. There are lots of great threads on the forum about tire selection. And don't be afraid to ask. This is a great place and there are some really intelligent and interesting people on here.

Great! So now that we have it narrowed down to All-Terrain, we get into the real nitty-gritty. Not all ATs are created alike. They kind-of appear on a spectrum, where you have more road balanced on one side, and more dirt balanced on the other. On one extreme end you have the Michelin LTX; its technically an AT but in reality is engineered for mostly on-road use. On the other side of the spectrum you see the BF Goodrich KO2 or the Nitto Ridge Grappler, those are balanced more for off-road use. Somewhere in the middle of the spectrum you have tires like the Cooper ST Maxx and the Falken Wildpeak AT3.

I personally run the Wildpeak AT3s. They have been a nicely balanced tire, not excelling in any one condition but they don't perform poorly in any one condition either. Ive had them in snow, on oil-slicked roads, dirt, dry, wet, etc... they always feel solid. Ive heard great things about the Coopers also. I'm not saying "definitely buy these!", but Id certainly look into some of those a little further, see which one fits you best.

So specific. There is plenty of dirt mud and rain where I reside and I’m mind blown with how much detail there is for tires :angrygirl:
