I wouldn't worry about the top tire picture, I would worry about the bottom tire picture. I have no issue with using older tires, I got free bfgoodrich ko2 tires that are like 8 years old but have no dry rot, yes on a racetrack or extreme rain going fast the traction is not as good as if they were fresh but I dont drive like I stole it anyways. If the tires have dry rot especially on the sidewall I would replace them, its cheaper to get four decent new tires instead of possibly getting a blow out and damaging a alloy rim.

LTX AT2s. There should be a ceremony when they are removed.

Are you old enough to ever have had a set of Michelin XZX's? They should have declared it an annual day of remembrance when they discontinued those.

I’m plenty old enough, but never ran the xzx. I appreciate your sentiments though.

Kids are so risk adverse these days. I drove across half the country on worse in my 20s. The tires were actually buldging in areas and wobbled. Granted at that stage in my life, dying wasn't that hugh of a concern.

I know. I burned my bald tires off the back of my 72 skylark, I had to put studded snows on to get around. Subsequent burnouts left trenches in asphalt.

people will say to replace them but I've seen much worse tires hold out for a long time past what you'd expect them to. if you do a lot of high speed driving i'd replace them, but if not, they are probably ok until you can get replacements.
