Lifted my truck and added 285s. Toyota guys complimented me on the lift and rims, then later said they couldn't renew my sticker because the tires stuck out past the fenders. I live in Mass. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I'm not worried - I know of another place that will pass it.

I know it's a pain in the ass, but can you throw the original wheels and tires on to go for inspection?

    11) Fenders. Front and rear fenders must be in place. Every commercial motor vehicle which is equipped with tires which extend beyond the fenders or body of such vehicle shall be equipped with flaps or suitable guards to reduce such spray or splash to the rear and side.

According to the inspection book.... if it’s 4wd, your tires can stick out a bit. I believe no more than 3 inches though

We use that plastic lawn edging on our older trucks when we have to get uncovered tire tickets written off. We take the bolts out of the stock fender liners and then just bolt that edging to it, go get the ticket written off and go home and remove them.

    Proceed with caution.

If you get pulled for rooster tailing an LEO, they may 'assume' you did this post inspection, but give you a 'fix it and show me ticket'. If you get busted again, it may be more serious.

If you whine and roll on the shop that passed your inspection, they may lose their license and not be happy. Whatever result that will bring.

Doesn't matter 'who likes it' at Toyota. We can all like it, but it still not comply.

If you're not using spacers you can pull out, bushwhackers are the permanent fix.

I'm not being picky. I have family in S NH that work in Mass. and I've seen dealt with their nonsense a lot. They may be worse than Va.

That is a pretty standard rule. People behind you will be thankful that you have your tires covered so you are not slinging rocks.

It's odd because I was running spacers on my old set of stock tires for a year and they stuck out further than this set.
