can someone explain why you require an inspection? is it for insurance? do you require a vehicle inspection once a year kind of thing. I'm from Canada.

I'm in VA. Inspection stations never really bother me.

What bothers me is the personal property tax.

It's the annual nanny state lets keep our citizens safe and pocket the change thing.

I have no doubt that inspections do keep some chuckle heads from operating unsafe and toxic vehicles.

But I'd wager more accidents are based on the loose nut behind the wheel than burnt out headlights or tires outside the fenders.

Not all states have inspections. And in some states not even all counties have inspections.

Proud to be inspection free here. We did that exercise a number of years. Then someone figured out it wasn't cost effective.

It's not to buy insurance, it's the law in some states. We have to have a vehicle registered and inspected... two different legalities.

I think inspections are often annual, while registering can be every 2 years. Here in NH both are annual processes.

Are you saying where you're from you don't need a regular safety inspection? Only upon buying the veh (certification)?

Ontario used to be that way, not sure now though. Safety inspections are a fact of life in N.S.

Edit: We don't have smog tests though.

 

Not as bad as it sounds. Like anything in USA, there are loop holes.

 

I have a bed rack on mine and it didn't pass due to the third brake light being blocked. so passed it without the rack and go a new mount from the company who didn't understand the issue. Im in mass

 

No safety inspections in Calif only Smog inspections for 1977 or newer
