Wouldn't some XL RokBlokz mud flaps work? They would cover the width of the tire? Or is it just an issue with the top of the fender not covering the tires?

I guess I won't ever move to MA!!

They do the Safety inspection when you get smogged. This is why they must go through all your lights, turn signals and inspect engine bay for illegal mods and suspension.

only need an inspection if its 15 years old or from another province/country. I didn't have to get my truck inspected when I bought it

I'll let you know what happens. That is what I have on there now. We'll see if my place accepts them.

They got stricter very recently. Just borrow a friends wheels or throw your stockers on for a min.

Also if you sold that car to someone, it would get a safety inspection from the DMV when registered by the new owner.

    Sounds like a bitchin' ride!

Without a doubt they do. While not 100% effective having replaced several Jeep windshields from running without fenders, I know first hand that I never replaced a windshield when the tires were tucked under.

Here in NY a yearly inspection is required by state law. They make sure your brakes and steering work, the lights work, check if emissions equipment is in place ( doesn't necessarily have to function) and a couple other small things.

I personally don't mind it, it's only $21 (price is set by law) and if they didn't have it people would be driving clapped out beaters so rusty that the frame is held together by bubble gum and bailing wire.

Yeah the new truck came with the sticker, good for three years. Once that's up it's every two years in Nova Scotia. Not sure if there are caveats for older cars and/or "antiques". The thing is, with the climate and copious use of salt/brine on the roads here, older cars can go to seed fairly quickly without proper maintenance. There's also the fact that the maritimes in general isn't exactly an affluent area, so many ppl just drive what they have until the wheels fall off. It sucks, and yes it's also a money grab.. but holy hell without some kind of inspection regime there would be some scary shit on the road. Well, MORE scary shit.

@Sungod I know plenty of states in the area where people have tires that stick ridiculously outside the fenders (6+ inches). I don't think we have such laws or if we do, nobody knows about it.

Alberta is filled with rusted out shit boxes and straight piped shit box diesels that have rust falling off the cabs when they idle cause our inspection laws are slim to none. and if you do need one there's multiple shops in my city that will pass anything you want for a little bit of cash under the table when the time comes to insure a questionable vehicle.
