Crazy night. SOMEONE TRIED TO STEAL MY TRUCK! Went to Planet Fitness to workout and when I was done, I found my locker was opened, lock was missing and all my belongings were out of my bag. I noticed my keys were gone so I immediately ran to the parking lot but fortunately my truck was still there, doors were unlocked and looks like it was moved a little bit. My truck has a manual transmission so maybe they did not know how to drive it? The only thing stolen from my truck was my $180 air compressor. The kind staff of Planet Fitness (her name was Ellen) volunteered to drive me home to get my spare keys while the other staff member looked out for my truck. San Jose PD was no help unless there was an actual vehicle theft. Considering what could have and might have happened tonight, I am grateful that no one was hurt and everyone was safe. I am forever grateful to the staff of Planet Fitness for going above and beyond for lending a helping hand. God is good!

Besides having a M/T, what other theft deterrents do you guys have? What security systems would you recommend? I have a 2020 TRD OR 4x4 w/ Tech Package. I'm planning to have my keys re-programmed but the thieves have 1 set of physical keys with them and I'm not fully confident that they will not attempt to steal my truck again.

(I guess this little "gadget" does provide some security. LOL!)

    Dude that Sucks!
Any video cameras anywhere in the parking lot or gym? if so, get that footage, chase it down
Fuck that PD, there may not have been a vehicle theft but there was theft of your personal belongings and an attempt.
I would pursue the issue and not let up, take it to the news media etc..It just feels wrong that they won't bother.

This is the Bay Area. San Jose CA. The PD will not bother with these petty complaints. They did however inform me to file an online complaint so that they can request access to the gyms cameras. The gym manager also has my number and file# so they can inform me of any updates.

Def get the locks re-keyed. They can and likely will come back with that key to steal your truck or steal from your truck. Won't be cheap but will be worth it.

It's astonishing we live in times where thieves can roam freely with little repercussions. Other states like TX it's easier to defend your property, without turning into the criminal.

Did they take your registration and house keys? (They will go to your house and/or address on registration)

Nope. Living in the Bay Area you have to take extra precautions. I keep my registration under the rear floor mats (in a zip-lock bag) and I always separate my house keys from my car keys. I also have 2 different style wheel locks and both keys are taped underneath the drivers side dash.

edit: also I don't live in San Jose. I live in Houston Texas. I just come to Cali for work

It's been getting worse all over the last year. Just a couple years ago, I could leave my home unlocked, and not worry about someone breaking in. Now, you'd better lock your doors if going out even for a a few minutes. Just last month a neighbor 2 homes from me was broken into. State cops still haven't any suspects.

    A KILL SWITCH!
Beside the MT the only thing more effective than a kill switch is a tear gas system inside the truck. :anonymous:

Ya can't steal it if ya can't drive it!

Totally sucks that local LEO can't do anything - how we got to this place of "no consequences" is beyond me..

Never been so glad to live in the middle of nowhere

I have been debating getting "The Club" as a deterrent. Does anyone else use one? upload_2023-5-30_8-41-58.jpg

That’s a good deterrent when coupled to an alarm….and tear gas of course. :homer:

My dad used to just pull a fuse (forget which one, but I'm sure there are several that would render the vehicle immovable), free too.

I use The Club and position it upward for visibility. It can be defeated, but it makes bad people think about do they want to take the extra time.

    I use one.
It does give me a bit more peace of mind in thinking the thief will see it and move on. Not a perfect solution, but hopefully just enough to be a deterrent.
Mine wouldn't have helped in the OP situation as I have the club key with the ignition key. No other (house, padlocks, wheel, etc.) keys on that ring. But when the key is in my control, the club lets me rest a bit easier.
