I had to change the fuel pump in my 96 Taco. I actually unbolted the bed and lifted it to put the fuel pump in. It was easier to do that way then worry about breaking the straps on a 12 year old tank. I just went ahead and bit the bullet and bought an oem fuel pump since the other one lasted 300k.

 

its a sign from your truck that its mad he is going to be replaced and not even with another tacoma

Tonight me and my buddy grabbed some beer and went at it, removed the tank and got the fuel pump assembly out. I'm going to see what I can find for parts. there is a small HOLE in the screen, and some gunk around it, I'm sure thats the culprit. New screen and pump and I should be back in business. there is a bit of dirt/crap on the bottom of the tank, any special way of cleaning that all out?

 

i need help finding a descent fuel pump, parts train is the cheapest by a long shot, anything wrong with getting the first one on the list for nice and cheap?

No problem there, and if it doesn't last that long it's not that expensive to buy another one LOL. As far as cleaning the tank i'm not sure, what to do there, but whatever you do make sure it leaves no residue and is completely out of the tank before you put any gas in it, don't want to be mixing that in with your fuel.

filter is new as of 2 months ago. I think i'll go with the cheap one, has good reviews

 

cause if you go with the oem one and it turns out its not the problem, youd swallow the $300 or whatever it is.

 

almost certain it's the pump im my situation. there was even dirt on the screen and a hole in it
