How long was the drive after the stereo stopped working?
I was able to drive 20 miles home once with a dead alternator. I've read about people who drove alot further.

Waiting for my mechanic to tell me it’s 100% my alternator so I can do it myself. I love working on my truck but I hate fixing the wrong thing by accident

It's far from the reality though. Whatever is going on with your truck is not related to the model year.

So this happened to me just yesterday. I didn't get a light on the dash that the battery was low. My first impression was the alternator. So I opened the hood in a slight panic and well it turned out the the battery terminals were dirty even though they appeared clean. So I took them them off the battery used a wire brush to scrape the battery terminals and the connectors and it turned back on like always. Hope this helps to eliminate at least one more thing that could go wrong.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
No such thing as a low battery light, only out of range charge coming from alternator. You have to use a multimeter to give you a good condition of your battery.

Ok no surprise here everybody, it was the alternator. Pretty happy because that’s simple and common.

    thanks for all the replies!

Glad it's a simple catch and not something more insidious!

Charge the battery before you start the truck with the new alternator.
Alternators aren’t really designed to recharge a fully drained battery.
Yes, they can do it. But it’s hard on them. They are designed to maintain a charge.

Good to hear you have it figured out:thumbsup:

Hey, if the battery is fairly old and you have the money. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to just replace it.
Or you could charge it and have the battery tested. Autozone used to be able to test them out of the vehicle.
