I'm a phobic pussy when it comes to dental work. They have so many drugs running through me right now trying to get me to the point where I don't flail and hurt someone. Dentistry is honestly the only thing I'm afraid of. If I had an extra $1000 laying around I'd consider paying a nurse anesthetist to come in and knock my ass out.

Yes. I checked both the differential fluid and transmission fluid at 500 miles, right before I left on the trip. Both were full and the fluid looked clean.

I'm not sure if it's the cause or not, but I personally think that the move to ultra light weight gear oil to help with fuel economy is hard on the gears. My differential went out on the 4Runner too and I replaced it with an ECGS unit that I'm very happy with. They recommend 85w-140 instead of the thin 75w-85 or whatever Toyota puts in these things now. At the rate that I've seen Toyota differentials fail recently, I'm inclined to agree with them.

I just got off the phone with the Case Manager from Toyota as a result of the first woman I spoke to escalating my case. I spoke to the Regional Rep for the Kansas City region. His name was Danny Castro and he was the most rude, uncaring, and least helpful person that I've ever spoken to. He refused to do anything for me and told me that I wouldn't be allowed to speak to anyone else about this matter. He said that without my dealer not only replicating the complaints, but coming up with a solution they will do absolutely nothing.

I'll bring it up again to the local dealer when I take it back to have the control arm howling TSB done next week. If that doesn't work, I'll have to explore legal options of some sort. I think I'd probably have a case for breach of contract and conducting business in bad faith since they aren't even trying to hold up their warranty responsibilities.

I have never been this upset at a company before.

I'm sure that this post will bring out the trolls, but I had to vent somewhere.

Recreate, pick up service tech at shop to ride along then..... if they won't help, find another dealer.

BTW, I spoke to a Toyota tech about the recent uptick in root canals for people with Third Gens. He said this was a normal feature of this truck.
