Its a 2012 Access Cab with the updated leafs, I bought it that way. It rides like a 3/4 ton truck, the bed bounces when you go over any significant bumps. It rides a whole lot better with stuff in the back, but I'm thinking that carrying around sandbags just to make the ride better is not a good solution to the problem.

What can I do to make the truck ride better but:

    -Not cost a fortune
    -Not lift the rear

If the solution reduces load capacity, I'm okay with putting in air bags to level the truck when its loaded. I generally don't have more than ~500 pounds in the truck bed.

So TacomaWorld, what do you suggest?

What tire pressure are you running? When I got my Duratracs I aired up to 42 and the backend was all over the place going over bumps (especially over bridges). Took the pressure back down to 34ish and it rode a lot better.

    set tires to 32 psi

slacken ubolts to 44 foot lbs each

it will soften the ride a tiny bit...but it's a truck and should drive like a truck

I have the TSB leafs and it stiffened it up quite a bit but...truck, right ?

Use TW to find a local member who doesn't have the TSB leaf pack who'd like to swap with you.

remove the overload.. if thats too soft.. add a basic 3 leaf pack..

note: you wont be able to haul much weight.. but you will have your soft ride.

Lower the air pressure in the tires (mostly the back ones)... that is the simplest and cheapest mod to improve your ride!

44 foot lbs is the specification for ubolts on the 3+1

if they are at 70 or 80 now, loosening to 44 will allow them to flex
a tiny bit more and they will be a smidge more bendy and complaint

crank the hell out of them to 80 and it stiffens the rear a bit

so....going down to 44 allows a little more flex and remains inside the
toyota spec. it may change the ride. it may not.

anyhow that is what my idea is based on....

I think what you meant is to remove the additional third leaf.

The "overload" is that short big flat one at the bottom that keeps the leaf pack from going into negative arch. Removing that won't help the ride.

    no I meant the overload.

For example.. The Icon 3 leaf progressive pack.. I had that previously on my factory pack.. Icon says to remove the overload, and in its place, install their 3 leaf pack.. yields 1.5" of lift, smooths the ride, but decreases the payload capacity.

it definitely was smooth.. but too smooth imo.. wouldnt hold weight for shit, but rode great.. that is until the entire pack wore out.. but.. thats because of no overload + plus me still carrying weight. If OP isnt carrying weight, he might be ok.
