    Check this out:

This is one of the four binding shackles between the two sides. All four of them are rusting, as are the leaves, espescially where the area between two leaves. My springs have about 12k miles and five months of use on them.

    Unbelievable!

Mine are doing that as well. Especially on the alignment U's. I sanded them and painted them again...but worst case it will be a good excuse to put some Dakars on. ;)

    Build thread in sig...
it's nothing to worry about...if they weren't rusting, i's say you never drove your truck and stored it in a big ziplock bag.

now if that retainer actually rusts off, maybe look into it...but that won't happen, not for 20 years at least

    Don't sand
spray with motorcycle chain lube ( the clear kind) and let the rust oxide form the PROTECTIVE coating .
    Or am I wrong

Except for this: I haven't had the truck closer than 60 miles to the ocean with these springs. Our DOT famously doesn't use salt. Cars here just don't rust much at all. It's common for 40 yr old vehicles to be rust free.

Fair enuf- I was a little off on my geography. Water and natural minerals can cause rust all by themselves. Materials change...coatings react differently. It's surface rust-Can be por-15 over or sealed any number of ways.

Not to mention- Those springs have been on your rig for 5 months....When were they made?? (Could have been YEARS ago...)

Yeah. Mine have some minor surface rust near the shackles. When it warms up a bit more in a couple weeks I'll get out there and sand 'em and rustoleum em.

People need to be unafraid of breakage...that's just an excuse to upgrade baby!

Every little thing (that happens on every other vehicle out there) is being so over-dramatized now, it’s getting ridiculous.

You think you got problems! My '05 is now developing a light coat of dust after only 5 years of use. WHAT THE HELL MAN! I know it's not right 'cause I've seen these things (on TV) take a meteor hit and fall over a cliff and still look like new. Just figures I'd get the one damn Tacoma that has this fault - probably related to the floormats or accelerator. Guess all I can do now is trade it in or get a quote on a complete new paint job.
