My very first gas tank fill

Hello Tacomaworld,

Just took delivery of a 2015 DCLB TRD sport last weekend & loving it.

I was not as excited as I am now when I bought a P-car back in 2006. Toyota stealership experience was shitty, but I love this truck so much that I couldn't care less about the attitude of the people at my dealership. It was like STFU and take my money.

Anyways, I've been lurking in this forum for a while now, and noticed some complaints about 2nd gen v6 fuel economy being really poor. So here is my first fuel economy measurement.

So apparently the tank was full when I took delivery. I reset the trip meter to nil, and I got 518 kms out of the first tank. That is about 324 miles. My tank took 66 liters at the pump today. That's about 17 gallons. So that's about 19 mpg which I think is pretty decent.. I mean.. it's a truck..
I also own a Lexus GX460. It's one of Tacoma's brothers with a V8. My GX460 gets 15mpg. So personally, the Tacoma feels like a hybrid to me lol.

It really doesn't matter what kind mileage a vehicle gets, someone is always going to complain! I don't even calculate it anymore, I fill it, drive it, and repeat. The amount of time I spend in a trail would make my numbers not accurate whatsoever.

 

That's actually really good for the first fill up. I remember mine was around 16mpg but after a month or so of driving I was getting 21.5 easliy... until I started reading more and more on this site then I starting buying lots of stuff. Now I'm back where I started haha. Congrats on the new truck man!

 

My first fill up was aroung 17 mpg. Now i'm getting 21 - 22 mpg.

They have a phone app and such to make it pretty darn easy to track your fuel use and all kinds of stats

I've been tracking mine for years and its pretty consistent. AND its a nice heads-up something is wrong!

 

It took me a couple tanks to learn how to get the best mileage. First tank got about 17mpg. Second, I managed to get 20mpg (just barely) now I average near 22mpg. Prior to the Tacoma I have now, I drove a Dodge 3/4-ton, long bed, quad cab Hemi/Auto gas guzzler. I got less than 9mpg on average. 17 seemed great. 22 mpg saves me enough to justify the truck payment. ( I drive almost 3000miles a month)

I've owned 2 and the dealership experience was pretty shitty as well. I'm thinking that's pretty normal nowadays. Put it behind you and enjoy your new ride
If I'm being nice to my 2015 (no frequent hard accelerations) I get about 540 km to a tank-I also drive highway to work and cruise control that bitch all the way lol.

 

That'd be a lot of miles!

 

We live a LOOOONG way from where I work, we do a LOT of travelling, and we have 6 grand kids who live in 3 different states.... 37,550 Miles last year. Over 44K the year before. Hoping to cut it back to a more reasonable 25K this year and spreading those miles out on 2 different vehicles instead of piling all of 'em on my truck. . I wear out a LOT of tires...

 

My 2012 v6 off road got 28 mpg's last 2 tanks in Tn.

The 4 cylinder doesnt even get that.

 

Lots of steep down-hill roads in Tennessee....

I'm not quite a "hyper-miler", but close.....

When I get 22mpg, it's all highway, level roads (up north of here) Cruise set @ 55 or 60, and I drive like a grampa (because I AM a grampa...????) 28 seems outside the realm of possibility. But, as I said the morning after the past two presidential elections, "Anything is possible".....

Sounds like you are doing good. I do about 1800 to 2000 a month. I'm doing 20+ during the warm months. Winter time I drop down into 17-18mpg. I filled up this morning, didn't check my mileage as the fuel tank at work doesn't have a gauge. I was at 355 with no light on. Had to of been darn close

 

When I moved to Oklahoma, I had the ass end sitting on the axle from all the crap in the back. But, since I drove straight though stopping only for gas and going 55, I averaged 27-28MPG per tank even with all the weight and a camper shell on covering it all up.

On a 4 cylinder right, dont see a dude with a V6 getting 28.

 

Regular cab 4 cylinder getting 28, I sure as hell hope you are getting that type of mileage with a no frills base taco.

I was saying a Double Cab with a 4 cylinder wont see 28 on average.

 

Then say that. Don't say stupid shit like "The 4 can't get that"
