I was able to justify the Nerf bars at least..her dad was still alive and getting to have trouble on his feet, so it was easier to get him in the truck with them.

We can always replace material things in are life, but can NEVER replace a love one that passes away, so I'm glad your wife was uninjured in the accident.

Whoa, OP didn't say he was going to murder his wife. Let's not jump to the obvious solution of preventing this from happening again.

If I ever have a dream vehicle that I'm worried about my future spouse or kids driving, they'll all be in manual.

I taught my girlfriend how to drive a manual just well-enough that I could (somewhat) safely rely on her to get us (or her) home if I was unable to drive for any reason.

But she's nowhere near experienced enough to take it for a spin and it's going to stay that way.

    Bravo sir....bravo :hattip:

I'm surprised at the amount of people here that say they would be mad at their wife for this. Things happen. There was a thread a while back where a wife was driving, someone ran a stop sign, wife hit the other person. Dude was livid at his wife for it. Another guy in this thread said he would make his wife with she hadn't survived. That's harsh for real. If my wife wrecked my truck, I'd tell her not to worry about it. As long as she was ok. Insurance is there for a reason and the truck can easily be replaced.

I'm not saying this is what happened here, but just yesterday I witnessed what could have been a really bad accident, entirely due to the girl "driving" while looking down at her phone. At a 4 way intersection, all 4 lights red because of a woman walking her dog (pedestrian button). There was a car stopped in the east lane going west, a car stopped in the west lane going east, and me in the south lane going north. I'm sitting waiting for the woman and her dog to cross and look over to my left and see a car coming up to the light FAST, at least 40 or 50 and not slowing a bit. It was REALLY obvious the girl driving was looking down at her phone and not paying any attention.

It happened so fast I couldn't have done anything if I'd wanted to, the girl looks up, realizes she's about the slam into the stopped car, swerves to the right, bounces over the curb and just barely avoids hitting me AND nearly takes out the woman and dog, speeds through the intersection, and just keeps going! I thought about following her and getting the plate number but when the light turned green there were too many people in between and I would have lost her.

Again, not blaming OP's wife but if a cell phone was at fault here it could have easily been avoided. DON'T text and drive!!!

She was obviously distracted by the buzzy vibration and decided to finish with some big wood.

    Seriously though; glad she's alright.
Truck looks like it fared pretty well considering.

Alright OP...what's the story. All we have to go by is the picture of the truck being towed in a residential area with likely a speed limit of 25-30 mph and he said his wife ran into a tree at 40 MPH. Did it occur in this neighborhood in the picture or is this the picture when it arrived at the OP's house after being moved from the scene of the accident.\

How fast exactly does one need to be going to actually skid into a tree and hit it at 40 mph.....55-60 and then hit the brakes and hit the tree at 40 mph. Enquiring minds want to know.

Was it raining? Was she distracted? Did someone come into her lane and she took evasive action? All these things are pertinent to know so we can recommend divorce or simply counseling and a driver avoidance training course!
