IMAG0342.jpg IMAG0342.jpg So I am unsure if anyone has run into this issue before. Our center console has 'melt' lines running across it, some perfectly parallel and running right straight to the shifter also damaging the 'leather' which Toyota is telling us that we did it ourselves. [IMG] Some run from one side to the other. It is a 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD 4x4 Sport with 20000 kms on it. We did have an issue with the a dealer installed roof rack being installed wrong. It leaked down the pillar driver side window and created a short in the seat belt and/or air bag area. I do know that since that has been repaired we haven't had any further damage to the console. Coincidence? I did notice one night a flash of light from the cab of the truck. I think there was some sort of arcing happening somehow, but the dealership refuses to actually take it off to look. 'there are no wires under there'. I can tell you we are not doing this ourselves. I don't think it is the sun reflection as it is on both sides and we only get sun until 10 am, the windows are tinted, no sunroof and the vehicle is parked in the same spot same direction all the time . It's just the wrong angle. The truck is always backed into the driveway and usually parked during the day there. My Tacoma has been parked in the same position from time to time over the past 6 years. I don't have it. There have never been any charging cables laying across it as my husband is not electronically inclined at all. If he does it is up front tucked out of the way. He uses either a damp rag or Armor All only to clean it. They had happened over about a period with maybe a couple of lines showing up at any one time. Any thoughts?! Cheers

Looks like melt marks of some sort. Any flash of light would be doubtful as an arch. An arch that bright and you wouldn't have a truck. Something suspicious is definitely going on. Not normal. Appears something was laying on top of the console. You sure your husband didn't have something going on?

I suppose a piece of metal laid there that has been in hot sun could have done that. But it would have had been put there with gloves on?
    Who knows.

That's not spontaneous and did not come from underneath the console.

I don't think so. We went for a drive one day, came back, parked it in the normal spot. Nothing on the console, yet when we went to go for a drive 2 hours later there were more marks. I am totally baffled.

I blame those looneys and tooneys and the aliens having their way with them!

On a serious note, they could be some kind of chemical burn? You guys would have felt it too, perhaps not? Anything injected into the HVAC system for cleaning lately?

Me too. I've worked on cars for 13 years now and never seen anything like that. The marks definitely look like something was laid on top, however it looks like it would of been multiple times or things laid there. It's pretty crazy. Perhaps a few more pics would be helpful

That was caused by some sort of chemical....maybe a solvent or an adhesive etc.

    Perhaps malicious?

That's...strange. I know you usually park in the same spot - any chance there is sun coming through a window and bouncing off a piece of chrome leaving linear marks as the sun moves through the sky? That sounds even more crazy now that I typed it but...it could happen?

Oh we have a dog, but it certainly doesn't go in his truck. Dog transport is for my Tacoma only...lol
