11526A68-0753-4289-B718-570012A52A3E.jpg I came across this button while installing a brake controller in my 2013 Tacoma. I am not familiar enough with wiring to follow it and know what I am looking at. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Looks like some sort of aftermarket alarm or remote start system.

Had the same question when I found it on mine shortly after buying it. So I turned my head, closed my eyes, held my breath and pushed the button. Dunno what I was expecting, passenger ejection seat or something. The curious dumbass in me couldn’t resist.

The answer that came back is it’s a karr alarm, dealer installed that doesn’t get activated unless you pay for it or something like that.

Non-Factory alarms are useless and trouble.

Agree with TPMS, that little picture, beside SET, looks like the picture in the dash for lo tire pressure.

Its part of a KARR aftermarket alarm.

IT IS NOT THE TPMS SET BUTTON.

Dealers usually install that garbage KARR alarm. Mine got removed by the dealer but remnants of the wiring is still there. The dealer had to replace the lower panel because of the holes left after removal of the alarm system.

I had to go out & look. Other Tacos may be different, but my 2013 has no alarm of any kind, but it does have that exact button in that exact same recess at the bottom of the dash. It's appx. 1/2" to the right of the hood release & that little line or crack, seen in this picture, is the edge of the hood release. Then I cheeeted & looked in my Owner's manual. Unless my manual is incorrect, on my Taco, that button is to reset the TPMS.

Mine has been trouble free for years.
It is in a box in the shop somewhere.

OP, yank that junk out, especially if you didn’t pony up the $700 or whatever it was for the remotes.

Boy did the dealership try to hard sell me on that crap. Still pissed that there are holes in the dash and wiring that I had to splice back together.

If you are handy with automotive electrical you can use the break in the igniton wire to put in your own homebrew hidden starter kill switch. (I may or may not have done that).

I know it looks like a car alarm but actually it’s really it’s an ejection seat switch. Arm the system press the button and whamo that annoying passenger is gone.
