There was a button mounted on the lower dash and when I took the panel off I see all these splices. What is going on here? This can't be factory...

This looks like the main module for it.
No harm in taking out then?

Absolutely alarm. Shouldn’t cause any issue removing it. Although most of the time you’ll have to splice at least one wire back together that gets cut and wired into the main module.

That one wire looks like this one. What's it for? Ignition? Immobilizer?

That’s the one. Just remove the orange wires and splice the Grn/Blk back together. IIRC most of the time it’s a door or hood ajar signal wire. Depends on how the installer wires it.
Basically the aftermarket alarm is just a shock sensor wired into a door or hood circuit. When it senses the shock, it opens the circuit causing the factory content theft alarm to activate.

The same installer must have worked on my Taco. I removed the alarm system, but left the T-Taps in place since the wiring insulation and a portion of the wire conductor gets compromised when the T-Tap is installed.

I left the t splices in place, and just pulled the alarms wires off it.

    What a freaking mess.

Those southern region Toyota dealers need to rethink their molestation of Tacomas in the name of profits.

Pretty much every dealer of every brand does this. Crap ass Chinese alarm costs them $50 installed, charge the customer $500 when the vehicle is purchased. I removed so many of these when I was wrenching on Chevy’s it’s not even funny. And they are all installed like this...
