The manufacturer knows the application of their product. They should be finished with a tougher coating to hold up to rock chips. I would be as upset as the op and would expect more from a manufacturer that speaks so highly of their product. Especially given the short time it took for them to rust.

I'm looking to get a pair of sliders myself and these http://www.rocky-road.com/tacoma-rock-sliders.html seem pretty good. Anyone have these on their taco?

I just got mine from Amazon yesterday. Good to know they will take care of them if I have problems.

So appreciate all the comments guys, especially the smart ones saying I'm fucking stupid, & mis interpet the 5 yr warranty & do it all yourself .
#1. 5 yr warranty & yes finish included.
#2. Deteriorating 1st yr, worse 2nd yr, unacceptable 3rd yr.
#3. N-Fab rep admitted they had finish issues & claims new units are painted with a different process!
#4. I can remove myself. However I'm not a gear head, so don't enjoy tinkering with my truck , as well don't have a fm driveway or shop, in winter snow (just had nice Spring 24" in Denver Tues.). This is why I paid to have installed in 1st place.
#5. I had a vehicle with paint issues once . Mfg did not claim "Well it is expensive to ship back, thus we won't cover under warranty. Btw, remove the bumper yourself , and then paint it at your expense. And, TW advisors claiming $40.00, $100.00, $200.00? Right. I was quoted $250.00 to refinish, if I removed & brought in. Paint my self? Ok, & do this every 2-3 yrs?

    So. I'm on my own.

Again: N Fab & their warranty is a scam.
    This us a fact.

I'm planning on a new '17 Tacoma, will be careful of my step Mfg. or just buy the best looking again & be pissed. Or pay for a refinish that will last.

    Who's the Butthead here dude?
I purchased a product with a ( 5 yr warranty that did but last 2 yrs.?
Why don't you read the warranty, as I sure did.

    I'm at Blame?

Yes I can fix. No it is not right.

Let's see what u will do if your paint on your vehicle is defective, & under the Mfg. warranty.so you will Remove necessary parts & paint it yourself???
    Ha ha.

N-Fab is a joke. What they are not telling you (because I've been through this already) is that YOU HAVE TO BUY A NEW SET OF STEPS FIRST before they will replace yours. Then after 2 weeks, they will ship your new steps and you send back the old ones. Mine did the exact same thing as the ones above. Paint just flakes off. They did not sandblast or clean the metal before they painted it which is why the paint peels.
On a side note, alot of people are reporting that since there is not paint inside the tubes and the ends are open, they rust out really fast too.

N-fab replaced mine after the warranty had expired, and I didn't pay a dime.

Mine rusted out from the inside. I contacted them and politely explained the situation and that I was really disappointed. I explained that I'd rather give them the opportunity to make it right rather than have to tell my friends and folks on internet forums I belong to that the product wasn't up to my expectations. I basically said that each product experience is a story that gets told about their good name, and they have an opportunity to write the end of that story for me in this case.

They asked for detailed pics of the damage.

They said I could send them pictures of the original steps cut up and destroyed rather than pay shipping back to them.

They said I would have to pay shipping for the brand new set, which seemed very fair considering I was already out of warranty and it's reasonable to ask for shipping since they are providing a brand spanking new set of steps. It was a lot cheaper than a new set. They took my credit card info... but never even ended up charging the card for the shipping!

Yes, I had to take the old ones off and put the new ones on. It's like six bolts per side. I also had to cut up the old ones but that was not a big deal to me. I can understand that being prohibitive for a non mechanical type without tools though.

On the new ones I drilled drain holes at the low spots so trapped water could drain out. Then I put a thinned rust preventing paint in through those holes and sloshed it around inside to help protect them from internal rust again.

The steps are not the end all be all best ever, but I feel they are very good and the company treated me extremely well. Far better than they had to. I have and still would recommend n-fab steps.

I don't know why you didn't have as positive an experience as I did. I wish you had. I suspect maybe your attitude going into the situation and how you dealt with the company may have had a lot to do with it. I don't know though, I don't know you or how you came at them. Maybe you just got a shitty company rep?

Really sorry it's not working out for you.

Get them powder coated with a zinc rich primer, they'll be good for a long time.

Edit: Also if you take as good care of your truck as you say, you would have immediately addressed the rust and repainted... I would've at least
