My 2008 2TR-FE does this a couple times a month. Only on cold starts. Sometimes I can replicate it if I give the engine a little rev right after I start it cold.

Well, that means the exhaust valve is opening too early (or a valve is broken, bent etc) or unburned gas is getting out and lighting off (maybe off the catalytic converter). Could be a sign of running too rich. How's gas mileage?..... Also could be some type of crank/cam position sensor.

The cat/running rich thing sounds more likely if it's not consistent.... only happens on occasion instead of every time that cylinder fires.

Or something isn't right in the ignition system.

I'm going to go with rich.

I don't know about y'all, but my exhaust tip is BLACK. Never had a vehicle like that until this one, and my engine is without issues.

Honestly, that sounds like a problem.

Would be a design problem, or a complete mystery. My exhaust is no dirtier at 46k than it was at 5k.

No issues, other than a recall on valve springs around 7k miles.

Maybe that's why the 2TR eats catalytic converters like TicTacs.

    I'm on #3, 46k miles.

Mine are covered by Toyota because they're defective.

You'd be on your own dime. $1400 for each of mine.

I highly doubt the pop won't come back in winter time.

A friend of mine has pretty much the same truck as me (2009 2.7). He has the second cat removed, never had a pop
