$1,000 cash to the first one to prove your theory on my product. That right there should answer your question. You are not sacrificing security, no more than you did without the device...

Received my kit last week and had the time to install it today. Was even easier than I thought! The videos are a great help.

So happy to have the Toyota Remote features I missed out on by getting a 2020 manual.

Oh and my TPMS wire is pink.

I’m about to order the kit w/o the phone module as well. I am concerned about a third party phone app that can control my car. Essentially anyone who can crack my app username and password can start or shut down my car, in theory. This would include the app developer, a non-Toyota entity, who has the database of users & passwords. Was that your concern also and the reason for not ordering the phone module? Just curious.

I have no security concerns on the fob operation, just the phone app side of things.

Do you have alot of enemies? I am really really doubtful that anyone that has the time to crack your password without any real reason would actually do this. What would be the gain from this, you still can't drive it anyway. In theory everything is crackable or vulnerable, ie the nordvpn that is actually supposed to hide you and your location, was hacked (kind of) and should be the number 1 thing that should never ever be cracked. Updated software is sent out when there is known bugs or problems with n2 app, and no worries

I’m just paranoid I guess. It seems like there is a mass data breach happening every other week. That’s what I’d be concerned about, not individual targeting. In theory that could happen w/ anything on the net, I get that.

Slapping my tin foil hat on .... ( just joking ) but If there ever was a mass breach, that could effect the vehicles then I can easily just unplug the cell module and then there is no connection to my vehicle. The app is worth it in my
    Opinion.

You cannot shut your car down while driving with the remote start. Simply impossible. Also, cannot start and drive off with car with only using remote start.

Thanks for posting that, I was actually wondering if the truck could be shut down while driving, but didn't really want to try it and possibly destroyed my new truck.

$1,000 to you and the $1,000 to the bored hacker...and if your car “was” started, without the fob it’s not going anywhere..

This is a factory feature on the 2020s, using the same amount of security with Toyota. If you're paranoid enough, smash your cell phone.

My concern was with the app/mobile module (everything else is OEM Toyota security). The vendor has offered a bug bounty to those willing to find a security issue with the product, which is honestly the best solution in this case. I'm comfortable with the product I've purchased (received, thanks!) so I'll just be using that.

The event that anything "happening" as a result of a remote start kit being installed are very very unlikely.

Prospective buyer here for my 2020 Tacoma. Looks like a great product and I love all the feedback in this thread. My question is on the phone module and the subscription. Who operates that mobile service that is used here and what is preventing the $39/year from going up in price in future years? What if that company shut down, could the module be pointed to another provider? Who would handle that, N2 Designs?

I bought a Tacoma to take it the distance, 10-20 years. Ideally this functionality works for the life of the truck. Just want to get some understanding on the risks of that could render this remote starter a remote paper weight!

The manufacturer has been making this since CDMA, 2G, 3G and now we're on 4G/LTE. If you spend $189 and ride out 4G/LTE until it is no more which is somewhere in your time span then you got your money’s worth. Not to mention, some insurance companies offer up to $15/month off just for having a tracker device which would have paid for itself in a year, covers the annual $39.99 and then some. This would be an investment in added convenience. Look how long 3G has been around and still is, contrary to belief, it is NOT sun-setting for this device, only cell phone data plans cannot be activated new if they're 3G so if you already HAVE a 3G device, you're golden). You can start the clock from the 3G inception of this device until towers come down for good (many many years away as 2G/CDMA is still around). We're only selling 4G/LTE, and that'll be around for quite sometime. This would be the only concern, if it even is one. N2 Designs does not contract directly with the cellular plan, that's why it's an in-app renewal when the time comes so you’re not reliant on anyone to keep you up to par with service other than yourself. Your concern can be likened to saying ATT/T-Mobile going out of business. They never have, they’ve only rebranded and assumed each others contracts as when Cingular came and went under the ATT service umbrella. I understand your concern, but at the same token, very far fetched.

I'm happy to have this product. Helped in the hot weather and now in the cold weather.
I have a manual truck with the cell control.

I have a question: About three separate times the truck didn't shut off when closing the last door, but I don't know how to replicate this.
I went back and shut it off myself.

Is there a specific sequence before leaving that does this?
Will it shutdown itself in 15 min?

I am not concerned of anyone hacking the truck and driving it (it's manual) without the key. But if this happens I could track it with the GPS.

Overall, I'm glad to have this device.

    Thanks

thanks a lot for taking the time to explain. So is CarLink the provider? Is it their hardware too? Just want to research the mobile provider a bit to understand what I’m getting myself into. Thanks again
