Talk to N2Designs, there was one slight difference that we noticed during my install. Jimmy researched this change before I went forward. He got back to me and told me what to do. I believe he may be updating his instructions for the variation based on build date.

Overall, very pleased! Just in time for winter!

yeah toyota does odd stuff like changing wire colors. I guess pink was cheaper than green for 2020.

I just watched an install video for the N2 RS system (maybe older video?). The video showed a push-button and was called out as a "Valet Switch". Is this switch still on the current models? And, Is this switch actually used for valet parking?

    Thanks for response.

Hey Jimmy are you aware that the key fob will still start the truck if you press the lock button 3 times on fob. Even with the cell phone module installed it still works with the fob. Found it out by accident

That’s the way it’s intended to work. Either way.

    Well aware. ;)

We don't sell the cell phone add on with the premise that your fob will no longer work, you now have two ways to do it. In fact, you can even start with the fob, and stop with the phone (mix/match)...

Valet mode but not advised. Mainly for programming a smart module with HKEY and keyless/standard key versions of the remote start. Not included with Push to Start models as it's not needed for programming.

I've just ordered a remote start kit w/o the smart phone module. I was cruising though the forums looking at reviews for your competitors products (12V & Amazon). I found your posts to be very informative and forthright. Therefore, you earned my money. I've seen customer's posts on here praising your customer service. Thanks for putting out a good product at a competitive price.

I do have a question out of curiosity... are there any(more) inherent risks to using your products (3x start, 3x start + cell module) in regards to cyber security? I'm still learning the ropes of ethical hacking for PCs and do not have expertise in the automotive cyber security space. My understanding is that there is an encryption key exchange between the key fob and the vehicle (RFID?). Adding any remote start kit will no doubt increase the attack surface of the vehicle, possibly the range.

I don't mean to corner you on this question. I was just browsing the Car Hackers Handbook (https://www.carhackingvillage.com/) and it got me thinking. My guess is that the technology remains nearly the same for just the 3x device, but I am curious how it works in conjunction with the cell module/app.

At the end of the day I know I'm giving up security for convenience and that's fine for me. If you have any answers on the security topic I would be very curious to hear an explanation.

    Thanks!

There wouldn’t be any issue as the toyota vehicle shuts down when the door is opened and also will not start with the door open or if the brake is pressed while inside the vehicle to shift. So unless you trick the toyota security there is no risk.

The security question was more about capturing the unique shared encryption key that's transferred between the key fob and the vehicle that identifies you as "Admin" for lack of a better term. (and what you can do with it)

Here's a video of someone capturing an encryption key from a key fob in someones home and stealing the car.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR8RrmEizVg

The question posed was basically, there is an inherent risk to security by having a key-less entry system. Does adding this type of modification make the inherent security flaws of a key-less entry system, OEM from Toyota, worse by increasing the attack surface (increased attack range, more ways in, weaker encryption, etc.). This is a fairly new field of study so I would not be surprised if N2 isn't able to produce an exact answer. I don't believe Toyota publishes their key-less security specifications to anyone outside of the OEMs. Again, this is a question stemming from curiosity more than anything. I'm still going to install the product and be happy with it most likely.

N2 (Jimmy) and I sell the same stuff. I cannot see how this make things worse. When you program the initial module you have to put it in program mode to learn the the code from the keyfob and only when remote started is the signal passed back to the vehicle. It doesn’t keep the signal active when not in use from my understanding. But honestly the only way to find out would have someone try to grab the signal.
