I finally got my remote start in the mail on Friday and got around to installing it on Sunday. The first part of the install with just the remote start went flawlessly and was truly plug and play.

Then came the Smart Start add on for the cell phone. To me the instructions were a little confusing so I gave Jimmy a call. Jimmy answered all my questions and began to assist with the install. Before we were able to finish Jimmy had to let me go stating that he would give me a call back. This was understandable since he said he was celebrating his sons Baptism and I hated to bother him on the weekend anyway.

Jimmy later called me back and stayed on the phone with me until he got me up and running. I was on the phone with Jimmy for approximately an hour troubleshooting the Smart Start.

The installation for the Smart Start went well with Jimmy explaining it to me but the app cleared my vehicle and then there appeared to be a cell coverage issue with the Smart Start itself. Neither of these were any fault of Jimmy’s and he still assisted me through the whole thing.

For others to note in reference to the Smart Start Module as Jimmy stated to me I found that it works best if placed in the lower driver side front kick panel that you have to take off for the install. This location gave me better reception as I was not getting it when it was more up under the dash.

After getting up and running on Sunday I once again tried it several times yesterday and then again this morning with no issues. It works like a charm.

I would definitely recommend this remote start and Jimmy for his customer service.

Got my Hkey remote start and smart control installed over the last few days. The remote start module was incredibly easy to install and program, hardest part for me was tapping into the TPMS wire because there isn't much room but there's not much you can do about that. After I had the remote start installed and tested it a few times I went on to try and install the smart control app but had some issues getting it programmed. So I pm'd Jimmy at like 9pm and he responded really quickly saying call him. I wasnt quite expecting that good of service and had already buttoned things up for the night. I touched base with him and he sent me the proper instructions as well as walked me through step by step on how to program and hook up the app. He was super responsive and I am very thankful for that. The smart control module is awesome. I feel like it's a must have with being able to unlock and lock, check battery and location, and start the truck. This kit was super easy, Jimmy was awesome to work with, and I highly recommend this kit. You cant beat the price either!

This was a great product at a great price. I didn't realize at the time of purchase that I would get phenomenal customer service too. Jimmy is putting it all out there for our benefit. Make sure you don't miss out next time.
    Thank you brother!

If you tell her that it’s really for her to warm or cool the car before she (or the kids if you have any) get in, it’ll make it more acceptable! I’m also a relationship consultant.

As long as you’re “doing this for her” it should help make things alright. :p

Not sure if this had been asked, but can car-link module be made to work with DEI remote start module? I have smart start, but seems car-link has other useful options that smartstart doesnt. Cheaper too.

Is it a Directed DB3? Yes it can, you just have to tell me ahead of time or include this during checkout in the special notes section because the harness I package will be different for you as well as the programming instructions. You’re getting the same smart module hardware you’d get from my biggest competitor without mentioning any names. The protocol would also be set to “DEI” in the app.

I believe he sells either the Directed DB3 or Directed DBALL2 units, but he doesn’t sell it as plug n play if I am not mistaken it’s wired leads/open ends and you have to tap/splice them. I’d say open it up and look at the plastic molded casing of the unit, but you may have to peel back the “KB Voodoo” label he places over it when he sells them. Ask him how you would interface to it with a smart unit because my stuff is all connectorized for plug n play. I wouldn’t want you trying to cut my connectors off as it will void warranty and make it a final sale even if something doesn’t go right.

Yes, they weren’t plug and play for the starter module it self because I had to solder that, but the smart start module was plug and play that I purchased from another forum member.
I will find out what dball module it is
    Thanks again for the info

Nice product. Got both the remote and smart app. Smart app takes a couple days to get used to. On day 3 of smart app and have no complaints. Jimmy will absolutely help you with anything you need.

I was able to do both installs fairly quickly with only instructions provided. Definitely the best price on the market.

Here is a little tid bit about those wondering the same thing:

No. If you properly install any aftermarket product in your car, the dealer cannot void your warranty simply because that product is there. If you were to do the installation incorrectly and cause damage, that would not be covered under your warranty.

From the Federal Trade Commission website, “Simply using an aftermarket or recycled part does not void your warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for companies to void your warranty or deny coverage under the warranty simply because you used an aftermarket or recycled part”. To read the full article, go to: Federal Trade Commission

With that said, because it’s plug n play, and a quick install including the trim removal portion, I would still take it off to avoid the hassle should you need warranty service done because we all know how dealers love to pretend the laws above don’t apply to them. That’s a part of why you’re paying for plug n play, leaves no trace. But I’ll say it again, not one unit I know of has ever caused an owner an issue, and not one has come back defective from the many sold not just through me, but buddies in the same industry across the states! Trust me when I say the factory wouldn’t want to design something without the safe guards of protecting your vehicle. They care more about that than the device itself! Now don’t get creative beyond the instructions and video tutorials. It’s plug n play and unless you’re shoving things in where they don’t fit, every connecector is different so that you can’t “accidentally” plug the wrong thing in the wrong place. I would say it’s idiot proof but the world we live in today, some never cease to amaze me on how creative (destructive) they can be in general (not talking about the remote starter specifically).

What is the diff between purchasing from 12volt versus N2?

12volt is $179 USD for the Smart Key option and discount code. $199 for the Smart Phone Module for Canada.

He also said he could make mine stay on for 30 minutes instead of 15 minutes which I like for cold winter days.

    Any black friday deals?

i cant speak on behalf of n2 designs, but i would say the biggest difference is the cust service. jimmy is beyond helpful.

to my knowledge (i think i asked the same question), in terms of product, 12 volt solutions and n2 designs sell a very similar product if not the same. no need to pay more if its not needed.

if there is a black friday deal, i thougt i read there will be, def get the remote start module and smart phone module. i made the mistake of buying them seperately.

I can't say enough great things about the customer service Jimmy has provided.

I asked him at the last minute to allow me to come and will call my package before it went onto a truck, and he not only made it happen, but offered to help guide me through the installation.

Things did not go well at this point, due to something being bad. He patiently trouble shot and changed out all of the parts for 3 hours with me, and at one point cut his finger open pretty badly on my dash.

Not only did he go through all of this he then offered me a gift card for my time, despite none of this being his fault.

If all customer service was like this, the world would be a better place.

    *EDIT*
It turns out the problem was when I installed the connector for the T-harness. Rookie mistake. Sorry Jimmy!
