I was in such a good mood and only a minute away from home. Very loud pop sound when this happened in 4WD. Alignment isn’t straight anymore either :(

What the hell did you hit?

Last time I had anything that bad was when a chunk of curb was in the roadway. Struck it and took out both my drivers-side tires. Large chunk/flap in tread/sidewall. $350 later...

It was a sewer opening. I was coming from a downhill into a turn and it was slick, didn’t want to turn any more.

I’m worried about the other damage I can’t see. It was a very loud pop I’m hoping it only knocked the alignment out of place.

Ah, yes... understand perfectly. Motorcycles and man-hole covers in the rain... or corrugated metal bridges. I’m sorry to hear of your ‘teachable moment’... you wanted new rims/tires anyway... right?

Yeah I definitely do. Not in a position for it right now though. I’ll have to search around for a used single rim.

Bummer. How fast were you going when you hit it?

Probably only the rim and alignment. Maybe bent a tie rod end but doubt it...

Also, I picked up two of those wheels in excellent shape with the exception of a single 1/32” nick on one, both for $200 shipped. So not too bad.

Had some momentum from coming downhill, couldn’t have been more than 10 mph I’d guess. I’ll see if I can get under there tomorrow to look at the tie rod ends.

I gotta find this deal. I was just looking on eBay. It looks like it’s about that for 1 rim.

I’d bet your all good. Make sure your sidewall is ok, but you probably knew to do that.

Look around the for sale>wheels and tires forum here. Reach out to users with older posts there that don’t say SOLD at the end of the thread.

Outer tie rods are cheap less than $100 for OEM change them yourself in 10 minutes. A rim is $100 and may still be able to use the tire.

Most trucks can take a beating with minimal damage.

A car on the other hand may have torn off the front end.

    But he should check everything.

Thanks and thanks everyone. Just had to vent a little. I was in a really good mood because I had made $200 today on some side work and that’s what I was coming home from.
