If they are replacing the tire then they are eating the cost. Or they will bill you for it. Unless of course they suckered you into some wheel warranty, which may cover it.

Seems like a losing proposition for the dealership. What would stop people from driving over nails on purpose to get free tires?

Maybe it's your dealer that offers that. However, there is no such thing. The only time a wheel is warrantied is if you pay for it from a tire shop, or the wheel blows out due to manufacturing error.

    So the tire is toast?

And the dealer says "maybe" you get a free tire?

How much is three hours of your time worth?

Some tires (like the ones I buy at Costco) come with a Road Hazard warranty, and some tire shops sell a Road Hazard warranty at extra cost.

If you are running OE tires, just read your warranty papers to see if you have Road Hazard for the tires. It's not standard from Toyota, but you may have been lured into something 'extra'?

Unless there is a tire hazard warranty you got in the deal, then no. It’s on you to repair or replace.

Is it in the sidewalk or tread? If it’s in the tread you can plug it and go on your merry way.

If you got tire and wheel protection, they will repair the tire. If tire can not be repaired, it will be replaced at a prorated value. If you didnt get tire and wheel protection, that "maybe" is to get you there, pull your tire off the wheel, then tell you it wont be covered. Now your truck is sitting on the lift with no tire on the wheel and they will try to charge you for remounting and balancing, unless you were wise enough to tell them upfront that no attempt to repair or replace unless free. Not worth the drive there.

Edit: If you did get the tire and wheel protection provided by a third party, you can go to any dealership. If it was a plan provided by that particular dealership, then you are stuck.

$5 at any gas station for plug cash. Cheaper than the gas. The kit is likely under 10$

Sounds like they are trying to get me there and hit me with some bs story of why it’s not covered and then comes the bill
