Yep. I'm 5'10 and I guess my legs are long. You have to perfect the onboarding with the timing of the right knee. I do like my plain ol' Tacoma, though.

at first glance these are very different trucks Mid size gas VS full size with diesel. I would research long and hard about chevys Transmission and engine in that vehicle. I dont think in modern times that chevy has ever been accused of being reliable. I would think repair cost for the diesel will need to be factored in. Im very much against extended warranties because i believe they are paying for work ahead of time (if needed at all) but in this case i would seriously consider getting one from a dealership. If they refuse to give you one then that would tell me all i would need to know about the chevy

Comparing a midsize to a full size .. ? These are both different trucks can’t really say one is better than the other . Each has there positives and negatives.

honestly coming to a Tacoma forum …not many of us are going to recommend a Chevy over a Tacoma … best thing is just ask what we like and don’t like about our trucks . Then go to the Chevy one and ask the same thing then make your choice then on the truck you want .

If buying new get one of those $30k Jeep Gladiator Sports. The only similarities between other midsize and 1/2 tons, is it's not like any of the others.

Yesterda, I was pricing Gladiators because those are less money than a 2dr Wrangler and easier to find. Then I checked to see if this dealer still had an F-350 I like, it's still there. Then I checked to see where Frontier prices are, that's what I would probably buy today. I don't want to get rid of my current truck and not in the market. Got to say, a low price Gladiator wouldn't be bad for an extra truck I don't need. Kind of want a diesel SuperDuty and the Frontier.

    Edit

The easy answer should be Tundra, but with the fuel line recall, which seemed like a big deal to me. Maybe it's not, I've never seen a 3G Tundra on fire, the engine recall seems serious. Serious enough for me to pause on considering a Tundra, this is after the 3G Tundra has grown on me. I don't want to see the Tundra go away, as it offers some competition price wise into the mix of 1/2 tons.

I do question the Tundra's longevity as a segment contender. Toyota does not build a lot of Tundras, and the domestics are having trouble moving 1/2 tons along with Toyota. If the trend stays like this does everyone pause production, and cut less popular trims, options, and models including the Tundra?

I currently own two Tacomas and have owned four Silverados in the past. When considering your height I recommend you go with the Silverado.

I'm 6' 3" and 220lbs. Been tall and lanky my entire life, even when I was 16 years old. I've owned 5 Toyotas, 1 Jeep and 2 Silverados in my lifetime. I love love (loved) all my Toyotas. Only twice, (once being currently), have I owned one of the said Toyotas as my sole means of transportation. I'm currently regretting the crap out of it. I loveeeeeee my truck. Can't get enough of it, but it is cramped and the lack of power (only when I need more) is a major inconvenience. In the past, whenever I've owned them as a secondary means of transportation, it was never an issue at all. Whenever I needed the power to tow, I'd jump in my full-size. Whenever I knew I was going to have 1-2 more folks riding with me, full-size. Not having another option and just having the midsize Tacoma, sure does accentuates those shortcomings, esp when you need them most.

OP is ~6'5".. you need some quality test drive time behind both. Why are you limiting yourself to the 3.0 diesel as the only full size truck? You said would like 20mpg.. you can get it in the Tacoma unless you live in a mountainous region.

imo a few mpg difference isn't large enough to sway the purchase.

Just to add a little info.. I had a 5.3L Tahoe (Z71 with lower rear end) that'd get ~15 mpg regardless of whether I drove it like it was stolen or drove grandpa style. My 3rd gen Tacoma mpg can swing from 15 to 23 mpg depending on driving style and terrain.

Op? Decide anything? I love my 3.0 Silverado for the MPG. I kept my taco because the Silverado realistically is only for on road activities.

I owned a 2020 Silverado with the 3.0 diesel, and eventually traded it in for a '23 TRD Sport with 2800 miles on it. The silverado was getting up to about 60k miles on it, and I know a lot of maintenance would be coming soon. I LOVED that Silverado, it was A LOT bigger than the Tacoma, when I got the tacoma it took me about a week to get used to the size of the tacoma. I miss getting 650-700 miles per tank and NEVER had any issue with mine. Dont get me wrong I love my tacoma but sometimes I wish the cabin was bigger.

I'd love a Diesel, but not a GM or Chevy!
