Keselowski is giving all the contenders the lanes they want, he's got a faster car than all of them according to lap times, and fresher tires

I'm team Newman only because he doesn't bitch about other drivers as much, he just does what he needs to do. Hope Hamlin and Harvick wreck each other just for laughs.

Give it to harvick for doing what he had to do, won the last two chase races, that's getting it done.

Fun season this year, love the new format and love this car, looking forward to next year already!

I'm not a fan of harvick in any way shape or form. But he's been consistent all year, he earned that championship.

Yep, he was the fastest car all year, the fastest car won this format, can't argue with that

This new format definitely added some drama and put some intensity back into the sport. I'd like to see them tweak it a little bit. NASCAR put emphasis on winning, then a guy without a win came one position away from taking it home. But altogether this new format wasn't too bad.

Definitely agree, over the years I've really disliked the changes NASCAR has made, but the chase changes for this year added some drama that was much needed. A few more little tweaks and they might have it.

A winless champion has always been a possibility under all formats, can't avoid it.

I think the new format is awesome. Definitely made the racing more exciting and makes every driver race to win not race for a good points day.

Love the new format. Only thing I'd like to see changed is pull 'dega and add The Glen.

Two changes I'd like to see: 1) points leader at end of regular season automatically in final race. Keep current format, add 5th spot for regular season points leader. Appeases fans that want consistency, doesn't take too much away from new format.

    2) separate points system in chase for chasers. Mitigates horrendous days for chasers like Gordon had at Texas. Not a gordon fan in the least, just think this would keep something like what happened to gordon from happening again (eliminated in third round after two runner up finishes in that round). Couldn't imagine what he was thinking with a chance to win the race today, knowing that he couldve been going for the championship.

Chase contenders have their own point system. Highest finishing chase driver in a chase race gets 16 points (in first round), second highest gets 15, third 14, etc. in second round highest finisher gets 12 points, second gets 11, third 10, etc.

If this were in effect for the Texas race, instead of gordon getting the actual points for finishing 20-something and losing 20+ points on everyone else, he would've only lost about 7 or so. Would have to do the actual math, but this would mean less of an impact for having one bad chase race.

true, but NASCAR changed the whole format to put an emphasis on winning. If you're going to do that, and have a non-winning driver come 1 position away from becoming a champion, then you're new format is flawed.

Definitely agree with your points. Just to drive it home on your second point, let's compare stats between Gordon and Newman:

    Gordon: 4 wins (including 1 in the Chase), 14 top-5s, 23 top-10s

    Newman: ZERO wins, 5 top-5s, 16 top-10s

Gordon has one bad race thanks to some aggressive driving by BK, and he loses all Chase hopes.

Another thing about last night's race, why did Gordon take tires that last pit stop? Kinda made me think he was helping Harvick out since they run Hendrick engines.

Tires were pretty important yesterday, they needed tires to compete but just made the wrong decision on when to take them, Hamlin screwed that up too, had the car to beat and didn't pit when everyone else did.
