Nascar just signed a 5 year contract with all the track owners, so taking a date away for another track won't happen, unless of course a current track owner bought another track and replaced its second date with the newly acquired one. Everything in nascar is $$$, sponsors for tracks sponsor those races out of guarantees; then you have to look at the stocks of those companies who are guaranteed cash flow that would be removed if a track lost a race. So moving a race to a different track has legal issues as well as $$$ issues. This sport can't ever be what it was.

The races at tracks are locked in through 2021, so no new tracks can be added during that time unless bought by a current track owner. The dates themselves aren't set like that, if a date does change it has to be requested by the track owner and goes through a "realignment" process or something like that. Basically it's politics.

All this equates to reduced enthusiasm for future innovation. NASCAR is making a lot of moves to cover their asses in the future. It makes sense business wise but otherwise it's a bore.

The logistics are unfortunate. I don't think Atlanta will ever drop off the schedule but I think it is stuck with the date in perpetuity. It's the same logic that landed it with the season finale for so long: outside of Daytona, it was the farthest East and farthest south offering the best chance for decent winter weather. They used to go from Daytona to Pheonix or California next, but owners put up a gripe about the cost and timeliness of driving cross country so soon.

Take it to the desert instead? Somewhere with a dry winter... Because ours is always wet

Before Atlanta was the season finale, they ended the season at Riverside, California.now they have purpose hilt Homestead-Miami. You can't go any lower without going to Cuba. That's actually a great idea now that trade has reopened with them. An winter exhibition race in the tropics! They tried winter exhibition races in Japan in the mid-90s. Truck racing also started as a winter exhibition series.

No penalties following the Talladega fracas. While Harvick wasn't formally penalized by NASCAR, you can bet his rear bumper will have a big target on it at Martinsville. Probably bigger than the one on the #22. Only guy gunning for the #22 is the #20. Meanwhile, 1/2 the field is ticked at the #4 who also managed to wreck two teammates (including his boss) at 'Dega.

Meanwhile, NASCAR brass is eating this up because it equates to headlines and potential ratings boosts.

Yep, I've also come to the conclusion that everything will eventually cause cancer.

I'm pretty sure just attending a NASCAR event significantly ups our cancer risk.

Actually eating asbestos would probably be less carcinogenic because your saliva would keep the particles from becoming airborne and becoming trapped in your lungs which is how you get mesothelioma , incidently spraying water on asbestos insulation is how they remove it

Eating a cylinder of processed lips and assholes is definitely more likely to kill you

    Science , bitches
