Very very tempting... I'd love to do something like this. Are there any other old(er) guys here? lol
I've been planning a trip to Moab (I did the San Juans in 2016) for several months now except I'm looking at avoiding the heat and the crowds. Probably May or mid to late September. Except for one size larger KO2s my '16 Sport is still stock. Sliders are on the list for next year though. Like a couple of the other guys I'm not really wanting to bash my truck on trails like "Steel Bender" :O and I'd like to do some other exploring as well. Petroglyphs, ruins, arches, slot canyons, things like that. If I brought the gf I'd bring the camper but then there would be much less off-roading, she hates it. Without, whip out the old backpacking tent.

Depends on what you consider older. I would love to make the trip but truck is stock ( for now, many changes coming) and thinking September'ish would probably fit my schedule better.

I think presently we have a nice bell curve of ages on the trip, centered somewhere around mid-30s.

Stock trucks can do the stuff too!

I've seen video of Kia's and Crown Vics on the trails at Moab. Something tells me a soft compound plain jane highway/AT tire would be quite suited for this terrain.

Don't let those videos fool you. They are easy trails but they are hard ones too

I definitely agree with you there.

I'm likely wrong, and that's cool, but I feel a softer "normal" tire in a bit larger size would be great for the smooth rocks of Moab.

    Months....at least many days...

shear volume of available miles = much easy and much difficult with ample amounts of each for your entertainment. Damn near any GOOD A/T tire is OK. Pure waste being on mud tires considering ratio of road miles to off road miles for total trip.

Liked April visit...but this past April was a bit warmer than usual. May not have been indicative of "normal". Cool nights/comfortable days. Avoid "spring break" days/weeks if possible.

Thoughts on 4Wheeler Mag's assertion that Mud Tires are best in Moab? (Even with an FJ to tickle your interests)

Did 4 Wheeler Mag drive from Ky to Moab and back? Slight advantage once there MAYBE. Lotta rubber left on the highway to/from....not even addressing the gas mileage on that much road riding.

I ran STT PROs (That I advocate) 2 trucks that went with us had KO2s which I think are highly over rated. They had zero issues. I left 10%+ of my tire life on the interstate over 2 weeks.

Still rather have my STT PROs but would have been just as well off with A/Ts on that trip.
