Has anyone figured out how to install the Spotify onto the head unit (JBL system), rather than playing Spotify via CarPlay?

We have a GMC Canyon AT4X that has this, so I don't even use CarPlay on that truck.

Since CarPlay almost never connects on the Tacoma without a reboot, I would love to just eliminate it with native Spotify.

My CarPlay always connects. No issues.

I just use Spotify through my phone. Works fine.

Mine fails most of the time after remote starting. Have to go into Bluetooth on the infotainment and hit the Carplay toggle to connect. Most other times it is fine though.

My 7 year old aftermarket Pioneer deck does that too.

I read somewhere that you have to hold the volume button down after the remote starting to connect your phone. But I don't remote start so don't know for sure.

Holding the volume button for about 5 seconds force restarts the infotainment system. That is the “fix” for the few cases where either the screen won’t turn on after remote start or the CarPlay simply won’t connect manually.

That's how I use it for now, but it would be nicer to have the app installed on the head unit like the GMC.

Exactly. Why is Toyota always so far behind?

The displays and tech in the GMC are way ahead of the Toyota, it's not even a contest.

Agreed, but because I mostly use wireless Carplay, it’s not a big deal for me. In my old truck, Carplay was only wired and the native Spotify app would use BT, so I didn’t need to take my phone out to listen to tunes.

Apple Music and Amazon Music are your choices for the native system.

Spotify is not available on the native system.

if you are having trouble with wireless CarPlay, you could switch to using a cable.
