I use WAZE as a back-up/ alternative.. It is much more accurate & gives real-time traffic conditions.
Soon the manufacturers are all going to get out of the nav game and just supply an empty section on the dash where you insert your phone and it shows your screen as its on the phone.
Car companies hate to have to support Navs/maps and all the POI's...etc.
Google & Apple will dominate the next gen entertainment/Nav systems. Don't get too attached to your internal Nav system... down the road it will disappear.

Navigation worked fine both times I used it so far. I usually just look at a map on google before I go anywhere to make sure I know what roads I need to take and use the Navigation as a time to destination more than anything else. Regardless, in the end, I'm satisfied with the product.

Ugh. They just need a damned android auto interface already.

Worst part of my truck, tbh.

The downside to using your smart phone and Google maps in International Rates when you cross the border. If it wasn't for that I would had been using Google Maps on my iPhone.

The Navmii app is an awesome off line alternative for phones. Download country maps before you leave home over wifi, and use in whatever country you are visiting. It has POIs, addresses, and auto reroute, also tells you the approx time you will arrive at your location. You don't get live traffic, but so what. I have used it in Mexico, South America, France, and England with no issues and saved my butt several times from getting lost, so I bought the paid version to give the developer some extra funds. They also have a USA version for areas with limited or no cell coverage. Once you have the maps on your phone you need no Internet connection, I have the phone in airplane mode while out of the country so I'm not hit with roaming fees.

    OK.

I'm super impressed with the HUD on the new BMWs.
But, go with the $20 dash mount if you prefer.

    Yep - this exactly.
And FWIW, I completely agree that the "nav" in my phone is better than any vehicle I've been in.

My first mod was a CD slot phone mount. Seriously. There's zero reason car manufacturer to ignore that there's an awesome computing device with great capabilities in your pocket.

    ^^^ This.

The Garmin equipped Kenwood head unit that I bought in 2009 was 10x better than the factory NAV in my 2015 4Runner.

Thinking of going with an Android Auto compatible HU like the Pioneer AVH-4100NEX. Maybe next christmas I'll pick up whatever is looking good. I wouldn't use this nav to find my home. Voice operations just get me going in frustrated circles with the dang thing.

The nav in the jk I traded in pissed me off so bad at times I could scream. The Tacoma nav hasn't been horrible for me but I normally just use google.

The only decent ones I've seen are actually Chrysler. 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee that my mother bought has built in Garmin GPS. Very nice
