I'm sure your wife would be much more a fan of mine if you did hahaha. I really appreciate it! As I've said before though, I just take others ideas and add my OCDness. The real credit goes to them and all the helpful members like @Up2NoGood on here. I will say I got real giddy when Jaimes said that he was going to follow in my foot steps instead of the other way around on this one. I'm sure his will come out fantastic with his level of perfection! Man I love this mod. Originally I was just going to put some LED strips for puddle lights, but then saw this and fell in love with the function and factory look all in one.

Finally bit the bullet and ordered that remote start. Doing my homework and everything looks pretty straightforward... Anything I should be aware of, or anything you don't like about the product? Ordered the same one.

 

Haha I'm trying man. I did send some of the faulty switches to Jaimes in hopes he can get at least one of them working for you so maybe that'll come through. I haven't come across anything wrong with it. Easy installation and it works great every time. I also like the one push lock and unlock all the doors. It also can automatically lock your doors once a certain rpm is reached. You ordered the plug and play version from warmcarnow right?

 

Ya this one. What's the process once you go in the truck? I heard if you touch the brakes it dies. Remote start truck, open door, avoid brakes, insert key, turn key, then drive it??

Looks like the hardest part is taking the dash out and tucking all the wiring up outta the way

 

Perfect. Yea what you said i correct, It's a safety feature so if you remote start the truck a thief would still need the key to drive away. Also in the 30 some odd options there is one to keep the doors locked during and after remote start and I would make sure you set that. All the settings are pretty self explanitory. Running the wires is definitely the hardest part. Have you watched the install videos on page one? Those were extremely helpful and straight from the person you bought the kit from. Down the road I would also recommend upgrading to this remote. The advantage of this remote is that it gives you feedback that your vehicle has started. So for instance you're at work, in the store, etc and can't see your truck with this you would know if it actually started or not. If you need any help througout install or setting up the options just text or pm me so I get the notification. Also I have a good spot to mount the valet switch and notification led. I'll pm you a picture of it.

So you'll have an led for alarm status and things like that and also a valet switch to enter programming mode. Seen here.

I don't use the coin tray to the left of the steering wheel so I mounted them there.

Not to copy you but after some of our recent discussions I think I might get the same remote start you have. Looks like a really good unit with lots of options!

Do you have a link specifically to the kit you bought made plug and play for the Tacoma?

 

I'm a bit curious about the price for it. I saw an Amazon link a few posts ago, but it said it was currently unavailable. Thanks!

So the link above is the exact kit that I bought and installed. The guy that makes them usually only takes a few days to make more of them. However on his website it looks like he has switched to a newer version. It's the same brand starter and appears to have all the same connections. The newer version looks like it has all the same features and it's a 2 way system. So you get what looks like an led feedback for a successful start. Once I get home I'll read into the manual of the new one to compare them. They look to be almost identical though.

 

So I read over the manuals and not a whole lot has changed. It's a different remote but still has the same features. There's a few small settings that have been added to the new unit. Different things like when to lock/unlock automatically and things like that. It looks like just as good of a remote starter to me.

 

Awesome, thanks! I've never had a remote start, so I don't know how often I'd find it useful. I'll add it to my mod wish list, but it'll probably be toward the bottom. With single degree temps here in CO I can see the usefulness, especially if I added seat heaters too. But, I wonder if it's worth it to only use maybe 1/4 of the year, if that. Do you use it a lot, even when it's warm outside?
