Does the DTRL issues have anything to do with the position of your parking brake? Just a thought.....

Not for me. I was driving and tried both the headlight and fog light switch in all positions. Mine is functioning completely normal now. This mod is is 100% fine and a huge thanks to th op! My guess is when you pull the relay, the computer drops connection and it just takes a few key cycles or a specific amount of time for the DTRL's to reset. I think only 3 of us have had this issue and all 3 were back to normal in less than a day!

OK...update on my issues with the mod.

    Tacobilly, you nailed it, dude.

Indeed, my issues were related to the parking brake and the fact that the DTRL apparently does not come on if the parking brake is engaged initially. All my initial testing was done parked in the garage which is why the DTRLs never came on (despite my assertion that they were on and went off, it's near certain that was not the case). So, today, (while still in the stock setup) I pulled the truck out of the garage and turned on the DTRLs after releasing the parking brake. No blown fuse as I incorrectly presumed. Then I redid the mod, released the parking brake, and everything worked as intended.

Lesson here for anyone doing this mod...when testing, make sure you test with the parking brake off. Run the light switch sequence and all lights should work as before. Except now the fog lights should work independent of any of the other lights.

Thanks, ND4, for coming up with this flavor of this fog lamp mod. And thanks to several others on this thread whose input helped me troubleshoot.

This mod works. Just one hiccup though. When I went to put back in the inverter relay it was a tight fit with the male connector for the fog light anytime mod. I ended up applying a bit to much force, which wasn't that much, and snapped the prong on the inverter relay. It didn't snap off, it just pushed in severing the electrical connection to the relay.

It being a holiday monday in Canada and no autoparts places were open, I was fubar'd. I decided to raid my 2014 3/4 ton Dodge for a relay. Turns out Dodge put a relay in for air suspension, even though my truck doesn't have that. Stole that relay, put it in the Tacoma, and now everything is fine. Well, other than there being a dodge part in my Tacoma lol.

2007 DC 6Speed Manual: So I did the mod. It was easy....Fogs work by the independent hit of the fog button in the cab even if the Key is not on or in the ignition....cool. I can get Full HBeams with Fogs if I want. But depending on the sequence of when I hit the FOG Button or turn the rotating headlight switch...I get different results....strange.

Sometimes the first thing I do is put the Parking lights on then hit the Fogs...and both the fogs and Low Beams come on at the same time...even though the LOW BEAM switch hasn't been turned...HUH?!?! I was expecting to see FOGs, DTRLs and side markers on, not the LOW beams.

But if I change the sequence and turn the Fogs on first, then the Parking Lights, the LB's won't come on like I would expect when I switch up to LB's....then other times I switch right up to LB or HB's from the start, then hit the Fog switch and nothing...they don't fire...only LB's or HB's like stock. ????????????????????????

By the way: I have the relay (interior fuse panel) for the Large Amber Yellows lights, on permanently, by taking a tiny piece of folded electrical tape to hold the contacts together...giving me DTRL's

and I did the mod EXACTLY the way ND4 showed us....and by taking power from the Large Grey AC Relay.

Anyone know if this effects the rest of the lights??

    ......so weird

    Chris

You definitely did it wrong then.... the fogs should NOT be able to come on without ignition turned on as the 12v source to power the relay that you pull off the AC relay is a switched on ignition 12v.

If you have trouble getting the connector plugged in with the other one buy a "fuse tap" for an ATC fuse and land your wire with the 10 amp A/C fuse it will go off with the key. I did not do mine because I did not want to have to turn off the fog lights during the day maybe one day I'll tap into the parking light circuit to run the relay.

I think what he did wrong is hes back feeding the circuit i did this when i did mine. I pulled power of one of the other relays and pushed it into side of the fog light relay without using the jumpers and it caused all kinds of weird things. You need to make sure you have all the jumpers right or you could back feed the lighting circuit. This is were having a voltage meter helped.
