I’m having 2nd thoughts about this concept. I’m not sure if the key in switch remains closed when the key is turned to on. My other idea of having it ding seems solid though.

But it doesn’t accomplish anything. The dinger will not ding with the key out of the ignition and the fogs on. The diode wire needs to go to the green/black wire. Not the green yellow wire.

I read it several times. I’m right and you’re wrong. The goal here is to make the dinger ding when the fog lights are on and the door is open. From the factory, the dinger only dings when key is in the ignition and the door is open. Your wiring does not tell the combination meter that the key is in the ignition.

And when the door is closed, does it ding? You stated the unlock wire was the tap, I say it's the door ajar wire to tap.

Actually either would work, but easy access is the Driver's door.

Remove the key, and ding continues would be much better. Also, when vehicle is ON, no ding, so parallel circuit would not be an issue...

The “unlock warning switch” is the switch that closes when you put the key in. The “door courtesy switch” tells the combination meter that the door is open. Both circuits must see ground for the dinger to ding.

When vehicle is OFF...yes. So tapping the unlock would turn off the door open light while vehicle is ON.

You’ve missed the whole point of my idea. The point is to be able to turn on the fogs without the engine running to set up camp. The problem with this is you turn on the fogs and drive to work. By the time you get to work, it’s a beautiful sunny day. You forget the fogs are on. You come out of work and the battery’s dead. With my idea, you take the keys out, open the door and it dings. The keys are in your hand and you go, “Oh yeah, the fogs are on”.

Fogs ON anytime was never mentioned. It's the switch left on after vehicle is off...:burp:

sorry for the delay. busy few days. Initially I had trouble because of the 'narrow' blade. I wasn't getting good contact and the fogs were inoperable. Then it got cold, and dark, and I decided to wait.

Turns out I had left 'shoulders' on the blade and it wasn't recessing deeply enough. cleaned that up and it works a treat.

On the power supply, I took @caribe makaira 's advice and simply used a braided wire, female on the fog relay and splayed wires into the 'batt charge' pin #2 (per the image). Lead was showing 13.4v constant with the key on.

I did get lazy in terms of running that lead out the bottom of the fuse box. Temps in the 20's meant neither my fingers nor the plastic felt like cooperating, so I threaded it nicely between the relays and out. You can see the wire here.

    upload_2020-12-6_15-41-23.jpg

And success. On and off with the button. Stalk is completely out of the equation. And it shuts off with the key.

Wednesday it's supposed to hit 50, so the SS3's will go in at that time. Woot!!

Thanks again Caribe and @nd4spdbh for the assist!

Soooo I was thinking.... tell me if I’m just being dumb...

what if I use an add a fuse in the 10a radio fuse spot?? Would that work? I have enough room to do it and make it look good.

Both of the radio fuses are powered all the time. If you want fog lights even with the key off, that would work until you forget and leave them on and the battery goes dead. Then they won't work.

Honestly my thought when I first went looking for this thread was to be able to use my fogs at anytime so I’m not real worried about leaving them on.

my only other question is I have diode dynamic SS3 pro’s in selective yellow coming and was hoping this would still work with those

If you don’t care about switched power.. see below and you can stay within the same box. Will work with any light on the fog circuit.

Sorry missed that. Why wouldn’t you want to use the battery charger relay then to have that switched power safety?
