because if I’m out camping or something and want some light I don’t wanna have to run my truck to set up my gear...

 

Truck won’t have to be running, would just need to be in the ign position for fogs. But you can use the headlights with the truck off key out.

 

they had me considering that route, but sooner or later, I know i'd shut the truck off at night, hop in the next morning, get to work or whereever and having not thought about the lights, I'll leave 'em on. Happy with the key approach. The occasion that I'd need that kinda light for a set up is pretty rare.

No way I'd want something like big lights that I could forget to turn off..

I'd leave my key in the ignition for the very limited # of times I needed the light while parked.

 

My 2013 SR5 doesn't have the AC relay, so what can be tapped into easily that will allow the fogs to work independent of everything else, and only when the key is turned on? I don't want to worry about them coming on every 4 hours (possible with EFI) or something else funky.

Yes I do. I was going to try the EFI relay just to see if it works, but I wanted to ask if anyone has tried something else with success too.

 

As pictured, and described in the post I linked too, this works perfectly. The switch on the dash is on/off, not tied to anything else. Im not the sharpest chisel, and this was totally straightforward. The only 'negative' is the way the jumper runs between boxes.

Did the anytime mod today. I made jumpers like everyone else and tapped into the "Batt Charge" relay that's beside the EFI. So far everything works perfectly and my DRL's (Switchable on the stalk) have not been affected. Now I just have to swap out the factory housings for some selective yellow SS3's!

 

Right on. Exactly how I did things a month ago. Did the mod and couple days later dropped SS3 Pro’s in it. They’ve gotten a lot of use. No issues with the mod and I love the lights.

 

Quick question to you guys who have done this. Do the lights stay on if you turn off the truck?

 

No, they turn off when the key turns off and removed.

 

This makes it so you can turn them on without having to turn the headlights on correct?

 

That's correct. As long as the key is turned on, the fog light button activates the lights independent from everything else.

 

Which prong did you tie into on that relay? I think I might have attached to the wrong one which is why I got a CEL.

The brown wire in the photo is tapping the AC relay. All we’re doing is running that sole wire from the BATT CHG relay instead. Everything else should be as pictured

 

Yea that's what I've been reading too, but I don't have the AC relay because my truck is an SR5 without the inverter. I tried to tap into the Batt Charge relay in the main box but it threw a CEL. Is there a specific wire that I need to attach into or just any one under the relay?

That's the same one I tied into. I'm not sure what happened. The lights worked this way though.
