I make great use of this mod every week, driving on the empty mountain highway in the dark, with my high beams on.

Hey, I just noticed this today, but as soon as I started my truck, my dash board lights were all on without the headlights on. I'm not sure if it was like and and I just noticed, but is anyone else having this issue?

No, the lights for speedometer, tachometer, and the temperature gauge all come on when the truck starts. Only way to turn them off is to shut the truck off

That’s not how my 2015 TRD OffRoad behaves.

What is your left stalk set to (headlight switch) when this happens? If you take advantage of the Tacoma turning the headlights off when you open the door when the truck is off and leave it set to on or parking lights, the dash backlights will be on, as you experienced.

It doesn't matter what position the stalk is in. If the ignition is on, the lights are on.

Even if the headlight switch is completely off, the lights are on with the ignition.

This would have nothing to do with the mod described here unless you have done it wrong.

That stated, I believe dash lights are always on unless you dim them fully via the dimmer.

Yeah, I think you guys are right. It's just something I never noticed before and it's operating the way it's supposed to.

Hey nd4spdbh, a big thank you for posting this Mod! I finally got around to installing the wiring this past weekend and it works just as it should. I was previously hesitant to do this as all the other instructions appear to call for bending the tab and I didn't really want to do that.

Does this mod allow you to have fogs on with DRL?

Thanks to all for the great info in this thread. I am going to do this particular method for my son's truck, so the fogs only come on with the headlights.
I'm going to run a wire along the OEM wire loom from the small relay box to the main fuse box, indicated by the red line in the pic below.

I've searched this thread and not been able to find mention of what wire size (gauge) to use, or mention of what kind of load the wire needs to carry. This short of a distnce, I would think 16awg would be more than plenty?

The way I am understanding this, if correctly, is the "Pin 1" of the DIM relay (left side of the pic where OP is holding the green wire) is just the "12v+ signal" to fire the DIM relay, I assume by the headlight switch being switched to On. Is that correct? IF SO, then running a wire from DIM relay Pin1 to the Fog relay pin shown is just "12v+ signal" to fire the Fog relay, correct?

Ah dont want to do a standard anytime mod, you just want the fogs to come on with headlights regardless of high or low. You could do exactly what you describe and it should function like you want (could also go to pin 3 of DIM, or 3 of HEAD as its all the same.

Any concern with using 16awg wire?

For the super short lengths of the main load (within the aux fuse box) 16awg is more than adequate. The run for the coil energizing 12v to the main fuse box could be crazy small as the current for that is minimal.

Thanks, OP for the detailed instructions. Getting ready to do the mod soon (ordered quick disconnect and piggyback connectors). A bit unsure how to trim the connector so that goes into the ac-dc relay to get it to fit but will try. Quick q - with this mod, will my fog lights come on intermittently when the truck is parked?
