That would be entirely dependent on the weather (snow) but I'm not planning on going into areas to get stuck... other than tries/rims, and a RTT/rack I'm stock.... but just in case.. bring recovery gear...

I wanted to do the May run. My work has a mandatory meeting on May 22nd in Bangor. Why they have it on a Friday of a holiday weekend is anyone's guess! I was going to take the day off. MAYBE, I'll still get up to the Allagash late that day for the weekend. Not sure at this point.

@SR-71A has a garmin inreach, he may let you have a link to the tracker if he enables it. so at least you would know where we are/wind up. wont work once you get up there though.... I'm planning to get a garmin inreach mini soon, just trying to find a deal on them... they list for around $349, and a monthly subscription is $15 for 10 texts/ limited tracking, and $1 for a weather report. I like that its not a yearly, but month by month, so you can turn it off (no fees) when you are not out there.. and gives me piece of mind...

If you have your Ham license you could run an APRS setup and track the group that way, I am sure at least one or two of the guys in the run could broadcast for you.

I also am thinking about making a drive to PEI at some point (motivation to get my passport) drive up north through caribou checkpoint into NMW, and make my way East out Oxbow checkpoint (camp 1 night maybe in oxbow campsite, or roundabouts.. and into Canada, and onto PEI, and take the CAT back to . CAT fares look to be $174 for vehicle, and $99 per person 1 way, and after checking prices/fares looks like up to $335-392 1 way with 2 passengers, and a vehicle depending on day... boat leaves NS at 9:30AM each day it seems.. 3.5 hour cruise to bar harbor, ME

I'm doing the same. I'll let you know how it goes, I found a youtube channel today that goes through question by question in the pool in order and goes into detail about it. Haven't started yet though so it could be a snooze fest. I have the question pool but didn't print it, it's something like 60 pages.

PEI could be fun if there's some wheeling to be done. if it's just a highway trek, probably not for me - my highway treks are reserved for going down south.

I'm going to post up a couple of things in here that are ongoing just because I think we've gotten away from that a little bit. I don't want anyone to miss if they are subbed to this thread.

The PEI trip is a pipe dream ATM... I need my passport, as well as the $$ to do the trip..

the NMW leg of the trip is just to have a place to camp in the woods, and give us a little offroad time.. maybe hit up the ghost trains on eagle lake on day 1, then head to camp on oxbow road (in NMW), and on day 2 head out Oxbow road to exit NMW, and onto rt11/212 to cross over to houlton, and onto rt95 east to Canadian Highway 2, and follow that to PEI..

PEI theres a few things to do there. RED CLAY BEACHES, OAK ISLAND (think discovery channel treasure hunting, there are also several other places such as Darnley beach (obelisk?))

NMW is stupid easy offroad wise... the roads are maintained, and are passable by a stock subaru, there are some washout sections of road, and washboard pothole sections, but nothing overly complicated. the offshoot trails, and older logging roads can be a little rocky/flooded but are passable in a stock truck. I do recommend a good spare tire, tire patch kit, and to bring supplies you require. there are no stores out there (a few commercial fishing/hunting camps sell ice, or you can get a shower, I have never done this..... I carry everything, and double check my gear before leaving home.).

My main reason for a trip like this is to test myself, my gear in an adventure. I plan to eventually make a cross country tour, taking 2-3 weeks off work in a summer month/s and explore from Maine to out west/south (DISTINATION IN MIND, NO IDEA AT THIS POINT), I'd like to eventually get confident in my gear, and trucks abilities to some year take a 4 week vacation and head up north to Canada and drive straight to Alaska. camping along the route that I take. I dont plan to "plan" this trip out... it will literally be a pack up gear.have $3-5k (for food, and fuel, maybe a hotel or two to refresh, and recharge).. stop at a grocery store on the way... and head out into the unknown... I dont plan to hit major cities, other than a drive through, or maybe a day long visit (like Washington D.C. (I could easily spend a day or two there))....
