Yeah. Gotta check with the fam but we could go wheel for a few hours! I have to find some trails up there

It's a long drive though man.

I'd want to leave my cottage by like 8 so I can still work on my future property in the afternoon.

My grandma says no. Sorry Mike. She is taking time off from taking care of my grandfather with altzheimers in order to go to NH. She needs our help. Any other time we can go! I just have 2 full days of work and only 2 days to do it

Figured this might be an appropriate place to ask this:
I am planning a week long camping trip to Maine this Sept as part of my post deployment leave. Plan is to go up and see the trains, and the ice caves, then trek down to the B52 crash site, then over to Gulf Hagas as the final stop.
We will have two vehicles, my Tacoma with a lift, 33's full skids, front bumper, winch and rear locker, and a chevy 1500 with a lift, 33's, front bumper, and winch. Plenty of recovery equipment between us, and off road experience...
We want to be on dirt roads for as much of the travel in between locations as possible. I ordered up the Delorme Atlas, and we have gone through and planned a route out. Sticking to as many dirt roads as possible...
So here are my questions for anyone that has done some wheeling through the North Maine Woods:
Some of the routes we planned out were marked "impassable" on the maps...Now, would that be considered, impassible for a stock vehicle/undetermined driver, or does that mean the trail is blocked off by a gate?
If anyone is knowledgeable on the areas I listed, can you give me some names/directions to trails in the area? I have beaten up google in my search, but everything appears to be a well kept secret up there. With this in mind, answers to this in PM form would be understood, and appreciated. We are not afraid of a challenge, in fact, the harder the trail, the better in my opinion...
One thing I have found online is that there are some locked gates, and this is also marked in the delorme map. They also say that at times, the gates might be open...How can I find out if the gates are open, or alternatively, is there a way to arrange through the forestry service to have them opened?

Again, any information passed would be very well appreciated, and if anyone is interested in joining along on some trail rides mid-sept, please let me know!

Check on the NTC website, i can't get on the site from my work computer.
It has a description of all the trails,we would be doing one of the first 6,anything above that and we'd be walking home!:p

This sounds like a really good time. I wish I could go. No idea about finding out about the "impassable" trails but if you plan on going on them make sure that you bring some kind of saw (either chainsaw or just a bow saw) so that if you come by a fallen tree you can get by. :D Have fun.
