I'm thinking of taking off work Friday and heading up. I'm not a fan of setting up camp in the dark and I wouldn't get there until 9pm if I work. The dates I posted were the dates Joe could make it. I'm not apposed to leaving earlier or staying longer. Depends on what everyone wants to do.

Yup. Going to pick it up after work today. Nothing fancy. I have had a Perception for about 10 years. It has canning on the bottom, but I could care less. It has handled everything I have thrown at it and I have never had a problem (including kayak jousting). This yak has the exact same color as the one I have now which is cool it's just 5" narrower and 3' longer with less weight rating. So now Ill be faster with less force needed to keep up. Should be much better in the lakes/bays/slow rivers.

Wow....I didn't even know Old Town made crap ones. Everything I have seen from them has been beef. I guess every brand has a shit model.

You fucker. I posted all that shit for YOU...and even said I would grab this one for myself. All you had to do was look at it and say "wanna grab it for me?" and I would of. Instead your next post said " well i just fucked up at work...might have to wait on the yak fml......."

and you also said you didn't wanna spend over $300. Mine was listed at $400 and I talked dude down to $350. You can't hesitate on Craigslist or the shit gets sold.

You can borrow my old one - just don't loose the paddle :D
Now take your time looking and find a good one cause you don't need one for the camping trip.

If you need anything picked up in NJ/Philly all you have to do is ask and Ill hook you up. I know what to look for when inspecting them.

So here is my new baby

i have someone kinda local 1 hour away thats selling them on craigslist
the trophy for $250 ...its $369 new at dicks
and the perception swifty is $300 at dicks
im leaning toward the swifty as it has a higher cap. rating and cheaper...and smaller....
as i will be lifting it up a flight of stairs or over a 2nd floor balcony:eek:

I forgot to tell you that the Perception Manatee is the same exact 9' kayak I have. If you want to hold off until after the meet you can test drive mine. I got mine from LL Bean a long time ago, but it's the same one.

LL Bean Manatee = Perception Swifty

The shorter wider kayaks like these are slower and harder to keep in a strait line (track) then the one you borrowed from John, but they turn much quicker then a longer one.

You'll be very happy with the Swifty except in slow moving rivers and lakes. I was pissed mine was so slow at the last meet and that's why I picked up the 12' Perception yesterday.

In my local rivers that are fast and narrow with downed trees and obstacles like the one we camped at a couple weeks ago the 9' kayaks rule over the 12'.
