    Hello all,

I got a screw in my the side wall of one of my rear tires yesterday. I went in to get a new tire this morning and was told that I should get both rears replaced. The tires are only about a year old and still have a lot of life in them, I'd hate to replace the other rear with so much life left. I'd guess there's 80% of the tread left. Is it really necessary to replace both tires if the other one is only a year old? I'll do it if necessary, but I've gotten to the point where I don't trust anyone who profits from my ignorance.

    I've got a 2005 base model 4x4 with 4wd if that makes a difference.

    Thank you,

    -Dan

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Personally, I wouldn't get two new. I'd just have them put the new one on the driver's side.

What about the spare? Is it the same size and style tire? I just trashed a front tire and replaced with 2 tires, but my spare was smaller so I took the other used good tire and threw it on the spare. The tires had about 30k on them so there were prob less than 50% tread remaining.

If the spare is the same, you can put a new one on one side and the spare on the other and rotate the other used good one to the spare. But I do agree that the tires should be equally matched. That will be more noticeable in rain and snow.

Thanks all. I only picked up one new tire. As TacoDaTugBoat suggested, this weekend I'll switch my spare (which has 100% tread) to the other rear rim so I'll have both new tires in the back.

Yeah, I really appreciate it. Simple fix. I'd rep you, but I have no idea how (do people even care about this, I just assume it's like a small "thank you", so it seems like a nice thing to do).
