No one should ever have their primary residence be CA. There are states with relaxed resident laws where you pay less tax and can register your vehicle and have freedom

Eh. I’ll take the weather and beach and just leave my engine stuff alone. I have plenty of money to spend elsewhere. Or I should say have.

Although I did want an intake tube but no one will ship to me. Haha

Best Toyota mechanic on the planet.
Watch any of his engine rebuild videos.
He will install a short block and reuse any parts left from your engine.
    Awesome mechanic.

Spend $1000 to ship it to amd in Chicago and fly in to pick it up.
You'll save money in the long run.
I had my Camry shipped from Wyoming as it's hard to find an honest mechanic anywhere.

I do the same but I actually spend just half a year in a much cheaper state.

Anyway, way off topic. Get a used engine

Ha. That’s a good deal. My truck is so obvious though I’m sure I’d get busted within the firdt month.

This. I have used this site many times for many parts on various vehicles. Can probably pick one up with low mileage for under 5k.

Well this person at most needs a longblock. They don't need all of the accessories. It's not easy to get an estimate since Toyota doesn't sell a longblock but a shortblock is 3K and per the dreaded P11 code threads a new head with all gaskets, valves, springs, etc. is about 2200 bucks. So all of the parts to make a longblock are about 7500 bucks. Of course you still need to factor in labor.

It is weird there doesn't seem to be any options for our motors but shortblocks and really nothing aftermarket. Market must not be big enough yet.

No idea, will need small things like water pump and the usual stuff to replace, can save some bones by transferring other things from the old engine. I agree and disappointed that Toyota doesn't supply long blocks, I will say that while I only waited a couple weeks for a short block, others had waited months so maybe its a supply chain issue and Toyota just isnt dealing with it atm?

    Oh look, another mod....

I think the best you'll find is a nice used one, like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/155129788529?fits=Model:Tacoma|Make:Toyota

Is this just another "gotcha" of a 3rd party warranty?

We'll cover the costs if you can just find a unicorn for under $5k?
