You have to step up to 4x4 to get the MT, I would think some of your locals dealers have a couple floating around

Do 3rd gens only come in manual trans on the 4x4s? That's how it was with 1st gens back in the day (6 lug 1st gens I mean)

I truly enjoy driving my truck everyday. I recommend it, it is smooth, it is fun, I get ~22mpg's in summer with 265-70/R17 Bros, so fairly efficient, and it helps us ADD folks deal with daily driving. I have never driven the AT 3rd Gen taco, but would love to just to see for myself what all the fuss is about.

I too have to have things to occupy me as I drive. If I do not, I will chew all my nails off.

Most of my vehicles have been MT. My last one was a 3rd Gen RX-7 I sold in 2015.

I have had both AT and MT 3rd Gen Tacomas. I just recently traded in a 2018 AT for a 2019 MT because I could not stand the AT. The MT is much better. Is it as fun as an RX-7? No, but IMO it is much better than the AT.

You can only get MT with the NA 4 cylinder though. It is completely gutless.

My wife test drove one with me and immediately turned around and went back to the dealership. She said "this is so underpowered, it's dangerous"

So glad she steered me to my Taco!

Best new car/truck decision I ever made .
    2019 trd sport 4x4 dcsb MT .
    Better than all my other MTs , 1973 Vw , 1975 fiat 128 , 1982 Sentra , 1990 Subaru
1998 jeep . I know I'm comparing Apple to oranges , but my taco tranny is way smoother
than any of those cars . 1st gear and reverse take a little getting used to .
there's probably some logical reason for those two gears being so odd
compared to the rest of the gearing .
The MT together with the 3.5 motor is a dynamic performer .

As a 6mt owner just and fyi on the highway at 70mph u will get at best 18 mpg.... Ive done my best to get better mpg but that just kinda comes with the mt. The rear is geared different from the auto. On the other hand if u want to run 33's you are geared perfectly from the factory. Also its a blast to drive lovin my 6mt.

Yeah you can get MT only with 4x4 and it has to be TRD Sport, OR, or Pro, but 16 and 17 also had 4x4 4 cylinder SR Manual.

    1. Cool dog.

    2. GO FOR IT. I love my 2018 TRD Sport 4x4 6mt. I drove 3 hours and into another state past who knows how many other dealerships to get it. It's a great driving experience. It took some getting used to, coming from a Celica GT-S with short throws and upgraded bushings. But I like it a lot. It really shines off-road and in traffic because of how willing it is to crawl without stalling out. I plan on deleting the clutch fluid accumulator.

    3. My buddy in high school drove a 2003 Tacoma 5mt 4x4 Off-Road. I was in love with it. That truck is what made me want a Tacoma in the first place. I'd still love to have one like it, but not if it meant trading my 18 for it. This truck is my daily, and you'd lose a ton of creature comforts and just OVERALL comfort. I've even heard guys with 2nd gens saying how much quieter, smoother and more comfortable the 3rd gens are. Just a word of caution. If that doesn't matter to you, then go for it dude. It's a badass truck and a killer find.

EDIT: I believe you can get WAY more than 30.5k. Try to get higher before you let Carmax have it. They're famous for lowballing.

If you want to add to your tally, go manual. Manual taco is fun...but ideally just make whatever purchase you have a manual and you'll have your mind occupied.

Seems like MTs are being phased out . The 4 cylinder Colorado is no longer
available with a MT and the 6 cylinder was never available with the MT .
Because the Taco as been so closely tied to individualism and the greater outdoor ,
there's definetly more support for the MTs . I think eventually Toyota will
discontinue the MTs in an effort to streamline production .

I got 20-22 before my switch. 18 was at worst.

33” on our gears is not a perfect match. Everyone raves about 4.88s if they’re not loaded down too heavy, and 5.29 for heavier rigs regardless if 33 or above.

Otherwise, yeah, manual gearbox is the better option. 6th is a bit of a waste since 5th is just as good for highway cruising in most instances.

If you don't need 4x4/AWD then the civic is an amazing car. Really fun to drive

    I have a gen 1 5mt. When I got a gen3 I didn’t even consider the automatic....had to be the 6MT. 4 wheel lo stick driving is amazing.
