Have a 1999 Tacoma, and my head cracked at 136k miles
Its not to the water jets yet, but i figure ill still replace it. Where is the best place to get a new one? Someone told me Jasper is a good one, but you cannot order from them... only certified installers can. What are good companys, and how should i buy from them? Thanks

Rock auto has them, or see if a local machine shop can repair yours...

how do you know its cracked and where is it cracked? are you talking about an external crack?

    do you have any pictures?

a crack in the outer casing is nothing and can just be welded, only cracks within the cylinder area are critical, water passages and oil passages are not under great pressure and can often be fixed easily

I took it to a machine shop, had them clean it and inspect for cracks. the crack is right between the exhaust and intake valves.

Glad to hear you figured it out, sorry it is such a pain in the ass problem. I'd PM Bamatoy1997 but as I recall he got his head for his 3RZ fully assembled from an eBay seller.

No experience with "Famous Brand" cylinder heads, but lots and lots of good experience with Rock Auto...The only problem I've had with them in ten years of doing business, is that they once shipped the wrong brake drum, and that was fixed the next day.

I just got another shipment in from Rock Auto last night, new rocker panels and headlight switch for my 68 Dodge pickup, can't wait to see how the rockers weld on.

man that sucks, sorry to hear it buddy.

if it were me I would try to find a recently wrecked Tacoma and pull the head off of it and use that one.

i wouldn't shell out the money for a brand new head (but that's just me) and I just don't like the idea of buying heads by mail, too much can happen in shipping and if you are going to have it reworked anyway, sourcing it local is cheaper.

sounds like you have a plan, good luck with it
