Ive thought about getting a light bar for some time now (only one of many things I plan on doing) and have looked everywhere for light bars. my question is, do I need a light bar made for a 1st gen Tacoma or do I just need the compatible mounts for it? if that makes sense..

I'm guessing you want a roof mounted bar. Those would be the only mounts that would be vehicle specific. Most guys run a 40-42" bar on the roof. There are a couple places that you can get roof mounts for our trucks. Can't remember off hand but just do a search in here and youll find em quick, lotta info on em. Or hoepfully someone can throw out the names of the vendors/sites where u can get the mounts.

There are no light bars made for specific vehicles. It is the length you need to worry about. And the mounts are what you need specific for your truck which also are designed for certain length bars. which would be the 40-42" for 1st gens.the vendors here will specify what length their mounts will support. Then go and shop for any light bar of that length. Lots of brands and options out there to choose from. Depends on what your budget is after purchasing mounts as those are pricey too. Mounts will be like $120-$150 I think.
