Need a340e transmission in Portland, Or Area

Does anyone know a good shop to buy a used/rebuild a340e transmission in the Portland Oregon Area?

Thanks, I appreciate it. My Tacoma started to shudder right after I did a drain and fill with type IV from 50 to 60mph, now it started to shudder a little bit from 30 to 40mph. Do you think it's the torque converter/transmission?

 

I do think its the transmission at this point but there may be time if we catch it rite now
What condition was the fluid in when you performed the service and most important , did you have the transmission pan off ?

 

I did a pan drop and new filter a few weeks back. The fluids was reddish brown and I found normal particles on the magnets, no metal pieces. I don't think the previous owner ever replace the filter. The truck has over 230,000 miles on it.

You mentioned there is still time if we catch right, what did you mean by that?

 

Hey gearcruncher, I'm having a really hard time getting a rebuild(very long lead time) or a good used transmissions. So i was planning to pull the transmission and just replace the torque converter and reinstall it. Is there a way I could test or inspect if the transmission is still good or not? Thanks in advance for your help.

Usually if you do actually have a shudder ,all the transmission fluid has to be changed to get rid of it because all the friction modifiers in the original fluid are depleted . That and Lubeguard anti shudder fix plus a bottle of Lubeguard black .

It's no problem gearcruncher. The shudder happened right after I did a second drain and fill with OEM type IV. Then I read that the lubeguard would help fix it, so I put a bottle of the lubeguard platinum in it and that didn't help fix it. Then I read that a few of the members had replaced the spark plugs and that helped them solved the issue, so I tried replacing all of the spark plugs and wires and that didn't help solve the shudder for me. So, now I'm thinking it's got to be the torque converter, and that's where I'm am. What would you do next?

 

Also, I talked to a guy at one of those transmission shop. He told me once the torque converter goes bad the thrust bearings gets into the transmission and ruins the planetary gears in the transmission. Is this true?

 

I am one of those guys from a transmission shop as well .
If you continue driving the truck with the shudder , the guy you spoke with is correct . Thats why we have to figure out the issue and fix the problem before its too late . Does shifting down to 3 make a difference ?
I am wondering if your locking solenoid is partially plugged ?
Go here and try a brake tap test .This is a test used for a 5 speed auto but also works for a 4 speed . Pay close attention to the instructions

It's funny, the guy had pretty much the same truck as mine, except his was a 2002 and maroon color, both are prerunner crew cab.

The shuddering is happening anytime the truck is shifting out of first gear. So anything pass 25mph it starts to shudder now.
I did the brake test, and the shudder does go away, and I also press the gas when the truck is in park and I feel it shuddering also. So, I'm also most certain it's the torque converter. I'm just not sure if the transmission is still ok or not?

If your truck is mis firing in park , chances are you do " NOT " have a torque converter shudder .
I am wondering if you have a bad set of spark plug wires or your engine timing is out of tune .
If the engine shakes in park when your at an idle or you rev the engine feeling the shaking inside the cab of the truck , you need to fix that first before we begin to diagnose converter shudders . If your engine is stumbling in park when the torque converter is not being used , you have engine tune up problems .
Do you have a scanner to check for codes ? Your truck is fuel injected . I highly suggest you scan the trucks computer
If your engine is running rough , when you get up to speed and the torque converter comes on to save you some fuel , you are going to really feel chugging from the drivers seat x 100 . Why did this happen after the fluid change ? coincidence or you have no luck like me
This is very very common with Toyotas and all other vehicles . An engine issue making it feel like a transmission torque converter shudder .

 

Sorry , something happening to your engine other than spark plugs or wires .
Is there anything else you did at the same time you changed the trans fluid ?

 

The engine isn't shacking tho, in drive or in park.

Post # 13 if you scroll up a bit , you stated you feel the truck shake in park when you press the gas .
Did you mean you were doing a stall test by holding the brakes with the truck in drive and hitting the gas pedal ?
When you are rolling down the highway , What rpm do you feel the truck begin to shake ? Write the rpm down on a piece of paper .
Now , hold the brakes hard in your driveway not allowing the truck to move and begin to accelerate the engine to the same rpm you felt the truck shake when you were cruising down the highway .
This is called a stall test . A stall test will verify an engine misfire without moving the truck

 

About 2000rpm and anything over 25mph I started to feel shudders.

So for the last week and a half I haven't been going over 30mph, luckily I live in Portland so most of the streets are 30mph anyway. I haven't done any highway driving, I'm scare it might screw it up even more.

When I put my feet on the brake and the gas in drive, I feel shudder at about 1500rpm.

 

Yes sir .
If you stall test the engine in your driveway without moving the truck and feel chugging at 1500 rpm , you have engine issues .
Thousands of posts throughout Tacoma World from members with the same problem .

Start a new post and ask the members here at Tacoma World that your engine runs ruff at 1500 rpm .
Tell them you just changed the plugs and wires .
The members here at Tacoma World will help you diagnose and fix your problem cheap but you will have to create a new post
I will also try and help .

I forgot to mention that if you continue driving the truck with a ruff running engine , the rough running engine will do damage to the locking clutch inside your torque converter .
