Got a call from dealer that truck is done , frame replaced. But they tell me the horn is not working and not sure why. They think it’s the clock spring. Horn worked when I dropped it off. And now they say it’s on me to replace the clock spring! What can I do here?

You should tell the dealer it worked before you dropped it off, so you need to fix it.

Clock spring was a recall on some years too. Go to Toyota.com and enter your Vin.

You should have said, it’s not an incidental when it worked before I dropped it off, it must have been a blunder on the mechanics procedure.

It's not a incidental if they broke it..... Sounds to me dealer needs to fix it. Not Toyota

Seriously? I don't know who your service was done by but when they tear your truck apart, (Mine is 07, frame replacement last August) and it's ten years old, crap is gonna break, period. Toyota was more than fair to me I believe. They told me up front that they wouldn't charge me a dime in labor to put all new parts on instead of the current (old) ones back on the new frame, so I had everything replaced, purchased by myself, online and delivered to the dealership. Lower A arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, quickstruts, CV axles, calipers and rotors, etc. Maybe you need a new dealership.

If it definitely worked when you dropped it off, then it sounds like someone forgot to tie down the steering wheel before they popped the shaft.

Sucks for them as the clock springs are so unreliable they were covered by a recall (or TSB?) and it was bound to happen anyway, but if you're sure you had a horn before, that's their problem.

If you're not that sure... well... it coulda just broke. I had my truck inspected in January, it was done by kinda-friends, but I'm sure if something failed they would have told me even if they let it slide, which I doubt. Went to hit the horn sometime this spring, and it has no horn. So it's not like it's a slam-dunk that they broke it unless you're sure...

Contact toyota and file a complaint. These damn dealerships need to be held accountable.
There are probably other problems that you have not found yet, Take a good look at everything.

would they have had the steering wheel off to do the frame replacement? I did have the replace the intermediate steering shaft, but not sure if they would need to take all this apart to fix that?? I am sure it worked when I dropped it off

Yes, the steering shaft is disconnected to remove the cab.
Someone must have let the wheel turn while it was disconnected. Amatures

Yep, if you let it flop and it turns too far sometimes that's enough to break them, and if it's reinstalled a turn off, you'll snap it when you hit full lock.

There's fancy tools to keep the wheel in place, I always just ran a cheapy tie down strap to something under the seat, takes all of 15 seconds.

After going back to dealership and discussing with them they are going to cover the clock spring on their dime as they should.

    Thanks Guys!
