so my 2010 truck came with the 3 leaf spring from factory. I had the first rear leaf spring tsb ( truck bottoming out/Harsh Ride) done a few years ago. they installed 4 leaf spring.

I took my truck to dealer 3-4 weeks ago and left it there all day. they checked it out and said I qualify for the recall ( For the leaf spring breaking and possibly puncture the fuel tank.) . so today I dropped my truck there again.

The technician is saying that I dont need it because it already has 4 leaf spring.

Is that true? What should I tell them?

No, that is not true. The recall requires clamps in certain areas. If they are not then the recall applies.

Look at your springs with respect to the below. If you have 3 clips you qualify. If you have 4 clips as below you do not.

This is the criteria from the recall remedy document:

Ok thanks. I checked with the service manager just now and he said that my truck leaf springs has 6 clips since I already had the harsh ride tsb done. so I should be ok and no recall is needed for me ?

And after you force them into giving you new springs be sure they are the 04005-34404 part. That is the replacement for the four leaf (TSB) pack you had.

This is what you should be asking for. It's taken 6 weeks for toyota to get mine in. Scheduled to be replaced in a little over a week. Hoping they will be a little better than the ones they tried to stick me with.

I stand corrected on the six clips etc... Thank you xJuice very much for the correction.

That is what I get for only reading half of the recall.

I would however still look for myself. Why did they say at first he was qualified? They must have only checked the VIN the first time.

The dealer was right in my case. when I took my truck for the harsh ride tsb few years ago, they replaced the leaf springs with the leaf springs that had 6 clips on each. so mine does have 6 clips. so they didnt change anything. What bugs me is that I took my truck there 3-4 weeks ago and they confirmed that i was eligible for the recall. I bet that mechanic didnt even check how many clips my truck had.

I got the TSB replacement springs years ago too. Took my truck in for the frame and spring recall. They replaced my springs with the standard recall leaf springs and my truck was sitting low in the back and when I put the trailer on it was bouncing off the bump stops. I took it back and they installed the correct TSB replacement/recall leaf springs. The truck sits level now but I haven't hooked up the trailer yet to see how bad they sink under a load. I will likely need to get air bags or different leaf packs but I wanted to spend Toyota's money first.

My leaf springs snapped off last spring. Literally within days I received the "Notice" that they will be issuing a recall in the near future. Had both springs replaced with HD springs within a week. 2 weeks ago I received the "Official " recall notice. Took it into the dealership, they said they needed to inspect it? After about 30 min of talking to several of their Techs, and showing them repeatedly the paperwork that I had received from them during my spring maintenance that showed they already knew the rear spring was broken, they finally relented and sent all the pertinent paperwork into Toyota Canada. Tech said it could "Be A While " before I was reimbursed.
