How far do you park from your apartment? If it’s closer than a 100 ft, stick a Harbor Freight driveway motion sensor on your truck with a magnet or in the carport pointing at it. I can hear mine from the street if someone walks near my truck. Just keep it chest-high so cats don’t set it off.

The laws are in favor of the thieves, do something to one of them and you’ll find out the hard expensive way. Simply not worth it, move on.

I'd move. And not to another apartment. I'd invest my money into my own home with a garage instead of ditch lights on a truck. At the end of the day, you can try to add deterrents (like specialized hardware to mount the lights), but if someone wants them, they're gonna have them. You can't outrun an entire culture of idiots, but you can surely build your own empire (home/garage) to fence yourself off.

Thanks fellas. My gf filed a police report, referenced mine, and requested that the police pull the camera footage from the surveillance cameras. I will probably never see the footage for protection of the thieves and mine. It sucks that my gf believes not only our vehicles are being targeted but ourselves as well. Now she doesn’t feel safe at home and every noise last night while in bed she woke up to. I don’t believe I pissed anyone off to be targeted like this other than what I look like or what my vehicle looks like.

Stupid is getting yourself involved. File the paperwork with legal authorities and possibly insurance and hope for the best, but be prepared to accept a loss.

Losing some lights sucks, but it beats the hell out of bodily harm or future legal problems. Think not only of yourself but also friends and family. BS has a tendency to escalate!

Police have access to information they will never show to you. Part of "privilege" that they use to prosecute according to legal rules.

As to "I never pissed anyone off" ... do not count on it. Surely you once failed to hold the door open for the "princess" at the apartment office and the boyfriend wants revenge. Or you failed to let the speed-demon go first out of the gate one morning. Or ...

Just go on realtor.com or zillow.com, find a house for rent in a nice neighborhood. Get away from where your girlfriend does NOT feel safe.

Don't take it personally. Someone targeted your truck because its likely the only "offroad" looking fancy truck in a lot full of Prius/Altima/Accords. Happens in every city, at most apartment complexes. Just be glad it wasn't a firearm stolen and broken glass. Thats something that'll really piss you off.

I’d just leave something desirable and easy to steal with a hidden air tag, then when it disappears show the police the location

Sorry that happened to you and your girlfriend. We live in a decent neighborhood and still get the zombie junkies rolling through checking all the cars and stealing whatever isn't locked down. We have a garage so they can't pilfer our vehicles at night even though they tried breaking into our garage once but it was way to much work for them. The best you can do is make your vehicle, home, and/or garage a hard target but if the "zombies" are motivated there is nothing you can do.

Set up cameras and get the images..... move asap, but do not take matters into violence. You will regret every second you are sitting in a cell instead of them.:spending:

Just move to another apartment. Is it really worth wasting your future in exchange for a ditch light and wheel caps? Posting here won’t help your case either if ever you thru with your plan

Batman running around free is a comic-book idea. Real-life vigilantes usually have at best understanding of their pain but not real support from the public.

Posting on a public forum about my situation was more of a rant/vent. Just as my title states that taking matters into my own hands is a stupid idea. I know that. I’m not a vigilante or anywhere close to that in solving a couple hundred year old problem with thieves. I have too much to lose if I were to be jailed or worse. Material things can always be replaced and it’s when my loved ones don’t feel safe in their own home when I start to see red. While serving in the military, I’ve seen way too many times where we don’t take action until it’s too late. It’s sad to say but we live in a reactive vs proactive society.
