What prompted me to own firearms was when I was living in an apartment in the early 1990's. A neighbors boyfriend decided to throw a molotov cocktail through a window. The neighbor came to my place in a panic needing help. I lived right across from him.

The whole living room was starting to get engulfed in flames. As we were dialing for help we were throwing water on everything. Pretty much gutted the place. Next day I went out and bought a Ruger .40 cal and I still have it today.

It takes police time to respond. And if you live in the country it can take a really long time.

Mods are here to enforce the TW COC, and that's it. Threads getting off topic are just part of what makes TW what it is. Sure, there's a lot of BS on this forum, but also a lot of valuable information. The brotherhood here is also second to none. Shit, I don't even own a Tacoma anymore (sold it 6 months ago) yet I still come on this site every single day and offer any advice I can.

I prefer to think of it as you're just preparing for your next Tacoma :)

I like to think that way too :) Or a 4runner. That's still very much on the table.

Personally I have thought about getting a gun. Just the world we live in nowadays, plus an incident a few yrs ago where I came home to my front door open and a strange vehicle parked across the street. I had a contractor at the house that day but wasn't taking chances..called the police up the street and waited in the driveway. The officer talked to the person in the car and then drove right by me despite my attempt to flag him down. I found a hammer in my truck and had to clear the house myself..fortunately nobody was in there. I don't think I'd be able to get licensed due to a 15 yr old drunk driving conviction however.

I think you'd be fine. I say you should at least try! I can't carry here in MD anymore, so now I've just got my gun in a mattress holster. I'd feel very naked without it there.

Misdemeanor. State of MA can be really tight I've been told.

More recently there was a law enacted..not sure of the # but basically it is a grey area on whether this automatically disqualifies one based on the fact that it "could" carry a year plus jail time.

Either way I can understand it being a tough sell, as it can send a message "this person has an issue with mind-altering substances" even though I've been sober 14 plus years.

And here I am, in the complete opposite state (MD). It's pretty much impossible to get a CCW here. I've done some extensive research on it.

yeah unfortunately there aren't any limitations (that I know of?) on crimes being on your record. IMO if you have no public records of committing crimes for a huge chunk of time (id say 15 years is a long time), that crap should be wiped off your record (obviously dependent on severity of crime, ex. murder vs fraud or something)

As long as it's not a felony you should be fine. I know that feeling of being vulnerable.

Clearing a house can be tricky. People can hide in attics, closets etc...

Good question..and that could have changed, but somehow I don't see that as possible
